Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

Hey, maybe someone here can help me with a weird issue I'm having with the Delay block on my FM9? I posted it at the Fractal forum but haven't gotten much help beyond someone telling me to post the preset and unix being a smartass. :)

When I switch channels in the Delay block from the DM-Two to most other delays on another channel, I get a huge level/gain increase for about 1 second and then it returns to normal. It is visible on the level meters. It seems to only happen when switching from the DM-Two to most, but not all, of the other delays. For example, it happens switching from DM-Two to Analog Mono, as well as most of the first 10 delay types, but it doesn’t happen when switching to Mono Tape or Reverse Delay.

It’s a roughly 10 dB increase that lasts about 1 second.

I'm running the FM9 in 4cm with a Mesa Electra Dyne and have Output 1 set to stereo. According to the manual, this is an acceptable method for mono setups, as long as you don't use any effects with L/R panning, etc.

Any ideas, @DrewJD82 @JiveTurkey @Fireproof @Bruce ?

If you have a minute can you please try a similar channel switch from the DM-Two and see if yours does it?

This seems to have started with the last firmware update, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for any help you can offer. :beer
Post your preset up at FAS and they'll dissect it. Lots of room for presets to go sideways between fw updates.

I had some fun with them today; found a backing track of "Sweet Emotion", the actual song, without the guitars and played along using Brad's preset. Hahahah that's a f*ck of a lot more rocked out and distorted than the album! I figure if I have a Les Paul in my hands, good timing.

Tim's preset sounds great with both my Strats and just as good with the Les Paul, exactly what I hoped it'd be and pretty much sounds like some of my couch noodling presets.

I've got Vai's delays in some of my own presets, just tweaked a bit. I haven't tried the Lifeson blocks yet, but I just loaded them last night. I can't remember if I was going to keep anything else. Oh, Austin's Purple Haze preset sounds pretty good with the LP, I'm sure it'd be even better with a Strat.

Brads preset is pretty damn good , and one of the guys on the forum broke it down as there are a few advanced parameter tweaks, as his techs did the preset . Its interesting what it does , I hear it opening up the power amp a bit , and making the sound bigger more immediate , its some cool tweaks I have been doing it to the Freidman HBE, Atomica and other Marshall based amps. and it does something Cool . definitely no blanket on the speaker try it out

Preamp Tab:
Preamp Sag: Off Default: On
Preamp Bias Excursion: 5.0% Default: 100.0%

Power Amp Tab:
PI Bias Excursion: 126.0% Default: 100.0%

Power Tubes + CF Tab:
Power Tubes -> Bias Excursion: 104.0% Default: 100.0%

Speaker Tab:
Speaker Drive: 0% Default: 2.00

I'm not sure if the following parameters have any effect as the Speaker Drive is set to 0% and I've not played around with this yet to confirm:

Speaker Compress.: 2.03 Default: 1.00
Speaker Time Constant: 500.00ms Default: 2000.0 ms
Speaker Thump: 0.00 Default: 2.50

I haven't played it up loud but I read that and felt like it was some placebo action after playing it. I need to crank it up.

Well well well isnt that something i never knew

:sofa
I was a huge Aerosmith fan back during the time of their 1st 5 albums, and I didn't learn that til probably a couple decades later myself. Apparently the guys could write really cool, raw ragged riffs when they started, but weren't that accomplished as players yet.

it the bias settings that are noticeable , basically they are biasing the amp hot , which is likely what they did with the old Marshalls but it just gives it something . I don't now if it works on all amps but Marshall yes , although I did some other stuff as well . like changing tonestack to Plexi in the HBE

Dave wonders, "Why not just use a Marshall instead??"
