Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

The Artists Presets and GOT was super cool. Hell, is super cool. I think it is awesome. Apart from a
couple of IRs, though, I have been decicedly underwhelmed in utitlizing any of it. It was confimed
at rehearsal last night. I reverted back to my primary JCM800 based preset with some Bogner Blue
and Princeton thrown in. None of the Artist presets sounded right in that setting, and it makes total
sense. They are not dialed in for a heated garage in the middle of winter somewhere in BFE!

With the artist presets you are always usually going to have to reshape that for your guitar
Play back system most of those guys have a dedicated volume pedal on exp1 and all the fx stuff on exp2 so instantly you have to change the mapping

I have gotten no where near through 25 artist but of the ones I have tried
The York Stuff is good w a couple of tweaks , Fremen , FSM
The Petrucci Rig, Brad Aerosmith amp tone is damn good
Synester Gates w his ir and a bit of cutting the top end is good

I had some fun with them today; found a backing track of "Sweet Emotion", the actual song, without the guitars and played along using Brad's preset. Hahahah that's a f*ck of a lot more rocked out and distorted than the album! I figure if I have a Les Paul in my hands, good timing.

Tim's preset sounds great with both my Strats and just as good with the Les Paul, exactly what I hoped it'd be and pretty much sounds like some of my couch noodling presets.

I've got Vai's delays in some of my own presets, just tweaked a bit. I haven't tried the Lifeson blocks yet, but I just loaded them last night. I can't remember if I was going to keep anything else. Oh, Austin's Purple Haze preset sounds pretty good with the LP, I'm sure it'd be even better with a Strat.

So many great Aerosmith songs from their drug-influenced era! I saw them live and never sat down until they played Love in an Elevator. That era sucked azz!

It's true. Drugs have a way of opening up one's creativity. The addiction is (one of) the part that sucks. Rocks was my favorite album, and they were heavy into heroin at the time.
Megadeth was a great example of this. Mustaine replaced booze and drugs with anger and bitterness and has been generally great for most of his discography but he certainly had some missteps.

I like all Aerosmith. Except "Dude Looks Like A Lady" and not cuz I'm being PC, I just think the song sucks.

Hey, maybe someone here can help me with a weird issue I'm having with the Delay block on my FM9? I posted it at the Fractal forum but haven't gotten much help beyond someone telling me to post the preset and unix being a smartass. :)

When I switch channels in the Delay block from the DM-Two to most other delays on another channel, I get a huge level/gain increase for about 1 second and then it returns to normal. It is visible on the level meters. It seems to only happen when switching from the DM-Two to most, but not all, of the other delays. For example, it happens switching from DM-Two to Analog Mono, as well as most of the first 10 delay types, but it doesn’t happen when switching to Mono Tape or Reverse Delay.

It’s a roughly 10 dB increase that lasts about 1 second.

I'm running the FM9 in 4cm with a Mesa Electra Dyne and have Output 1 set to stereo. According to the manual, this is an acceptable method for mono setups, as long as you don't use any effects with L/R panning, etc.

Any ideas, @DrewJD82 @JiveTurkey @Fireproof @Bruce ?

If you have a minute can you please try a similar channel switch from the DM-Two and see if yours does it?

This seems to have started with the last firmware update, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for any help you can offer. :beer
