Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

I wanted to check out the Dev and Phil presets last night, I went to grab my Solar then thought “Duh! You’ve got Devin’s sig set in the SZ!” I made a quick clip with the preset; only thing I changed was dropping the Level of the Drive block down, that’s way more distortion than I’d ever dial into my own presets! I was pretty surprised to hear that much bass and distortion in a preset he used live, but I heard him on that tour and both him and Keneally sound f*cking GREAT.

(Wow, the drums are REALLY loud on my ipad speaker)

If you start playing around with octaves it doesn’t take long to get the Dev feel/sound going on. Phil’s preset is much, much darker than I presumed it’d be and way less mids!

Sounds Awesome Drew

Does Fractal Have a Pultec EQ ?
I noticed some Plugins have them, none on the Helix, was wondering if FAS has one ?

Not really, closest would be:

"The 3 Band, 4 Band and 5 Band types in the Amp block and GEQ are passive EQs. These simulate the effect of analog EQs such as Pultec."

I have thw Waves Puigteq plug-in, really nice eq.

Steve Vai’s Gift of Tone is a collection of effect blocks saved from his Axe-Fx III live rig. No matter how you use your Fractal Audio product—direct, with an amp, or in some other way—you can drag-and-drop these into your favorite preset of any kind to achieve some of Steve Vai’s signature settings, and even adjust them further to inspire greatness of your own in ways that yesterday’s kids with those flexi-discs could hardly imagine. The video below covers more on using blocks.

Well, I know what I’ll be doing tonight!!!

The block library thing is awesome... I find FX settings to be something I can often use from other folks' presets unlike amp or cab settings. I'm sure Vai has some awesome stuff.

One of the things I like least about the Fractal stuff is that the FX are not really emulations of specific things (for the most part) and there is no 'authentic' mode like the amps now have. So you feel like you are always deep editing them. Over time, I've built up a pretty nice library of blocks using info from the forum, my own experiments, and others' presets. This'll be a lot of fun to explore.

Same here, in regards to using effects blocks. I’ve got a sh*tload of effects blocks from various users but not so much with presets. I’m more stoked about these blocks than I am any other preset.

You, @laxu and @la szum can start a band called Authentic Effects. :rofl I totally agree in regards to pedal effects and I think la szum made this reference before, but you’ve got an effect type for a Phase 90 and it’s got 4 knobs in the top menu, rather than just one, like the pedal, which is a bit odd considering we have the Tone/Authentic tab for the amps. That said, I find myself tweaking the EQ page of Drive pedals more than anything else, once I have the amount of Drive dialed in and delays I tend to f*ck around with the advanced settings a bit more, but just because I’m a delay nut.

Totally agree on all points.

@la szum has a good thread requesting this over at the Fractal forum.
