NDSP (finally) announces plugin support for the Quad Cortex

What does that quote say specifically? I've tried googling and everyone just references it without saying what it said.

I think with their track record of over promise and under deliver, that press release should never have gone out with out specific dates. My first thought was that if they didn't give specific dates, it isn't ready yet, so why make a release about "okay everyone we are giving you what you always wanted and what we always promised, but not telling you specifically when you can get it..." Who TF thought that was a good marketing idea should be fired unless they are just trying to sell more units.

Combine that with the stories about updates going on for hours, bricked units, data breaches, etc. IMO, they stepped on their dick again here.

In some of the messages people have reported that picking the unit up and dropping it from about 3” temporarily gets it working right (I believe the crackling issue), but it still requires getting shipped backed to Finland for repairs. I can’t remember if gaining access to the SD card voids the warranty or not.

Regardless, NDSP knows the exact cause and solution to these issues, they just won’t say anything about it.

P.S. I suppose we can now safely assume that NDSP will never release another QC amp model gratis again? Hooray for plugin compaibility! Soon.

I think the reason they don’t release that many amps on the QC is because they have three buckets of modeling work going on:
  • Remodeling old plugs for compatibility
  • New plugins
  • QC

I don't quite understand why they have to improve the architecture of the existing plugins on computer when it seems they are still having to port them to run on the QC.
I don't understand why they can't just add new QC content. :idk

Yep. But this explanation speaks primarily to the fact that their plates are too full. I'm more concerned about the fact that it now runs directly counter to their own interests to create any new QC content. It will always suit them better to develop and sell plugins, and then port them for any QC owners who want to pony up.

Correct.

Archetype Plini is my one and only NDSP purchase, and makes for a tidy desktop standalone when my Helix floor is elsewhere, so this is great news. This should also have the optimized algos that use less CPU.

That might have been the end goal all along.

They aren’t gonna make extra money after purchase freely releasing this shit. :ROFLMAO:
Yep. We're all arguing the same points here.

Because they are incompetent and full of shit.
I'm not sure I'd say incompetent. Sloppy and unreliable? Yes and too often. But I still consider the QC very impressive in terms of design and execution.

Full of shit? Yes, sometimes. But this whole plugin thing is something they told us they intended to do from the beginning/ And collectively, it's something we all championed. From the word go I thought it was a terrible proposition from a consumer standpoint. The flagship h/w product should include content from the plugins by default. The paywall is a drag, and so is the forced bundling of content that should properly be available a la carte.

They have competiting revenue streams, and unless they find (desire) a way to reconcile them in a way that’s user friendly, (lol) users will always be stuck in the middle with them able to funnel content down whichever pipe they think will make them the most money.

Of course they’ve never been able to implement this shit so it hasn’t mattered, but @mbenigni now sees the potential problem ahead. (This was a big topic three years ago at the other place, insert Groundhog Day meme)

P.S. Another interesting angle here: I'd (educated) guess that porting a plugin suite is a lot more work than preparing and releasing a QC native amp model. But NDSP is now claiming they'll port new plugins "every few months" - which is what they originally claimed for QC amp models (after explaining how easy their neural tech was going to make that process.) None of this bodes well IMO.

I have to keep falling back on the fact that I really dig my QC "as is". It's hard to be optimistic about NDSP's road map at this point.
