Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Notes

28.01

Improved Spring Reverb algorithms.

Added “Plexi Brown” tone stack. This is the tone stack from EVH’s amp with a 50K mid pot.

Fixed rare crash when switching Compressor type from Axe-Edit.

Fixed global settings not recalled after using a song in a setlist and then rebooting.

Tweaked some power tube parameters slightly.

It's gotta make it's way down to the FM3 first

Speaking of which, I have to imagine the FM engineers are punching the air as much as Cliff keeps updating things 😂
Ah no this isn’t the worst
I think he did like 9 betas on one of the prior updates
And in like over a course of
2 or 3 weeks

I thought the new spring reverbs aren't going to come to the fm3?

From that 2024 update that overhauled the spring reverbs:
We tried to get the new reverbs in there but the CPU hit would cause much consternation, I reckon.

Those new spring and plate algorithms are resource hogs.

This is true But consider it might be possible to do with a Limited Chain, most Spring Reverb Tones dont require Long Complex Kitchen Sink presets
That's the way id see it for the FM3, here it is as an option but its limited IE : maybe Light comp -->amp --->cab and Spring
I cant say for sure but this might be possible

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m crossing my fingers hoping they’ll put them in there and let us choose to use them knowing the costs.

I’m moving towards using my fm3 mostly just as a digital amp and not an all-in-one, so having access to better reverbs when I’m only planning to use a few blocks in the chain would be perfect for me

I could see running a nice Plexi or JCM with one of the newer plates and the amp only and being pleased with my FM3’s output!

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Notes

28.02

Added adjustable Q to Low Cut and High Cut in Reverb block. Note: The Q only affects the response if the Slope is set to 12 dB/oct.

Updated spring models in Reverb block. A soft reset is recommended if you use these types to load the new default values.

Added Vibrato-King Custom Spring type.

Changed name of “Spring Drive” to “Dwell” as this is what is commonly used on spring reverb units. Note that the Dwell control is automatically compensated. Therefore, changing the Dwell will not affect the mix unlike a hardware spring reverb, it will just make the sound more “splashy”.

Rearranged Spring Reverb menu so that most commonly used controls are on the same line.

Added Negative Feedback control to UI for Friedman BE/HBE models since this is now a control on the actual amp.

Improved Amp block phase inverter grid clipping model accuracy.

The Fractal presets pack sellers every time Cliff posts a new FW.
