Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

For me, I like a nice thick fuzz 😶

The models in the Axe Fx, and other devices just don't have that wall of sound fullness to them. Also, just the chaotic reactiveness of the pedal seems to be missing and I haven't quite figured out how to do a gated fuzz either

We need Leon to show us how to pull off a Vezzpa styled gated fuzz.

What’s this about a Vespa now 🤷🏻

Just spent a half hour or so futzing around with the fuzzes. I don’t know, that Bender goes hard man. I slapped it over a Shiva Clean (in honor of @DrewJD82 ‘s new amp) and bumped the Master Vol Trim up to 1.8 on the amp and its kinda nasty in all the right ways.

Also, I found If you go into the Fuzz block and change the clip type to LV Tube it gets a nice little gate thing going. Bit Reduce does some cool, albeit more exaggerated gating. Kinda fun screwing around with that.

But the default Bender into the Shiva throws down on some riffage.

Yeah messing with the clipping types can get it very close. I still just prefer the fullness of the pedal when I switch back and forth....almost feels like it adds a note underneath of that makes any sense.

Also probably just me spouting reasons to still buy analog fuzz pedals 😂

I'm guessing you've tried the fuzzes and drives fairly recently then? IIRC, Cliff did another round of improvements to the drives off the back of some findings he made when modelling the Klon.

I did notice an improvement at that time.

Yeah I set up the patch @Whizzinby mentioned and was toggling through them. I want to be clear I am being very picky. The fractal fuzz can absolutely get you by no problem.

Fuzz pedals to me have always just had some sort of magic to them. As I described it before, just deep chaotic deliciousness 😂 the fractal fuzz get very close but still just a tad thin (to me). And I still like to buy pedals and I'm always drawn to fuzz. Better than 1000 boost pedals imo (which I also fell culprit to at one point)

I love the Fractal Fuzz face into a mildly distorted amp model. It doesn’t sound like a real Fuzz Face to me, but it does sound really good. Almost better than a real one for more practical sounds.

Gilmour used Fuzz Faces and I think a Tone Bender on occasion until ‘77 or so when he switched to Big Muff’s, which he’s been on ever since, or some modded Big Muff or something Pete Cornish made for him based off a BM.

This is the greatest fuzz tone I have ever heard and is also the birth of my gear fetish. I was 11 when I saw this, I had only been playing for about 6 months and I had no clue what all the gear did. I suggest watching it all because it’s pinnacle EJ, but the specific part is just after 0:45, you see him step on an A/B switch and then on a blue Fuzz Face. Holy Mother Of God.

The combination of seeing all those mystery pedals, which looked like lab equipment to an 11 year old, and the sound that comes out of his Dumble after hitting that Fuzz Face just blew my mind. I’ve never heard him get a Fuzz tone like that since, or anyone.

You Know we live in an age where there are so many effect pedals that all claim to be better
but some of the classics still can't be beat, like EHX , MXR, Boss
The OG's be the OG's

Same could be said for amps imo. Yeah it's fun to try out new builders but nothing beats Mesa, Peavey, Bogner, Marshall etc

Yup My current VH1 patch consists of all Old School OG Amps, cabs and effects
MXR Script, MXR 117 Flanger, Mono Echoplex, PLexi 100 SPL, 4x12 Greenbacks', post amp and cab, Sunset Chamber Reverb, Studio FF Compressor
So yeah all Old School
