Fractal Talk

Cooper’s a good dude and an asset to the Fractal community, but weigh out your options before laying down the coin.
For sure! Again didn't want to ask if it was useless 🤣 I figured it has merit for those new to modeling or new to fractal. Was just curious if it had some secret sauce or something

I’ve been curious about Cooper’s class. I’m never stuck trying to figure out something, but I also under utilize the thing considerably a lot of the times and it’d just be cool to know what it’s capable of and how to get there, even if I don’t know what exactly it is I want to do right now.

I think the biggest advantage to Cooper’s class (for people already comfortable with the platform) is that he digs in deep, and will show you things that you didn’t even realize were available. I’ve considered ponying up the $$ just for the guided tour into the hidden rooms.

That description to me is exactly what the ENGL Savage model sounds and feels like. In any case, I'm sure it's hella cool.

The Savage models are truly great. To me they’re the best alternative for anyone who likes to use an OD pedal to get the most defined metal tune possible. To me the FAS Stealth Blue has more character than the Savage models though, like the best of EVH tones. YMMV.

The FAS Stealth Blue is awesome. Doesn't clean up like a plexi, just too much gain, but for a hi-gain tone it is super dynamic.

I think it depends on your pickup configuration and IR choice. I recorded this when it was first made available:

This was with a noiseless single coil in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge, just using my volume knobs, treating it as if it were a single channel amp like a Plexi, where you might want to control your tone changes between clean and dirty with just your guitar instead of amp channel changes.

Random question - On an Axe-FX III, anyone know if it's possible to split Input 2 for use with 2 separate instruments? I'm currently using Input 2L and Input 3 for 2nd guitar and bass but was hoping I'd be able to route bass through 2R in order to free up my inputs 3 and 4 for other stuff. Ultimate goal is to use the Axe for processing drums (live audio interface for Superior Drummer), 2 guitars, bass and vocals (sort of) all at the same time. Very close to having that all work.

I disagree. IMO, not much “deeper” than whatever else you’ll find on YouTube.

But it’s all right there is the thing. How would you go about finding a video on something you don’t know exists? That was my point, and why I used the term ‘guided tour’.

Yes, it just involves splitting the stereo input into independent left and right signal paths.

Deeply RTFM, dig into the factory presets, twist all the knobs and press all the buttons before buying encyclopedias. In case of emergency, ask at the forums:geek:

Some people are good with reading manuals, some people are more comfortable with having a person show them. We’re all wired differently. That can be from YouTube, or it can be Cooper’s series. Whatever makes a fellow happy.

That's a lot of stuff. I think once you know the basics, the value of the course might be in finding what you could do with the advanced options.

A lot of the controller stuff is something few people use because they have a hard time figuring out what to do with it. Even if they understand how to use it, finding good usecases can be difficult.

Thats all good, but nowhere in his Basics curriculum is “Day 1: Dial up the SLO clean, Deluxe Memory Man, and Blackhole reverb. Now use it exclusively for the first three months of ownership”. That will be in my memoir, I guess. :ROFLMAO:

It’s kind of badass to have that thorough of an instructional on a platform. Dude put in the work. (y)

I'm not trying to belittle or start an argument. But out of curiosity, is the Cooper Carter masterclass really worth it if you feel you have a good grip on fractal units?

Or can you just get your info from YT such as Leon, Brett etc

I'd say no, and I got the FM3 one, back during Covid when I was needing something to do in the house and totally new to Fractal.

I have an Axe FX III and a FM9. If I took one of the classes would it cover the other?

I assume the FM9 class has info on programming the footswitch that isn't in the III class. Does the III class cover programming the FC-12? Are there things omitted in the FM9 class that pertain to the III?

I can't see taking both. If I had to take one or the other which would be the better choice since I have both units?
