Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

That top end content (fizz) is very authentic... and spot on... in my experience mic'ing cabs/speakers. I like it
being there. Stock and second hand IRs sound dark and muffled to me now. Never did before. :idk
I use a seinhieser e906 to mic a real Friedman 4x12 with greenies and have zero fizz it translates perfectly
love to share pre sets with you as well. Heck lets create a new 'share your pre set' thread!

e906 is so easy to work with, very little fizz indeed. It can sometimes be hard to get "that" sound from a Marshall with it so I have a SM57 around, but usually you have to move it around like 8 times before you find the spot , while the 906 is happy anywhere almost.

I keep trying the dyna cabs and they sound more clear but thinner. If the mic is close it's really fizzy too. I keep going back to the IR I like but really want the dyna to work....
How much hi cut low cut are you messing with?
Cuts vary depending on your room acoustics and what type of cab/speaker/monitor/"FRFR" one is using, will all vary greatly

Bro I’ve thought about this so much. Imagine being Cliff. You’ve created (for better or worse) the most complex and exhaustive guitar amp modeler on the market. You’ve spent more than a decade refining the modeling, adding features, squashing bugs, and pushing the limits of the hardware until a full redesign is inevitable.

And your forum is full of idiots who can’t follow basic directions or read release notes.

Neglecting to Refresh after Firmware or to install the latest Axe Edit; “is this a full release?” on beta threads, “is this a beta?” on full release threads; “where are my dyna cabs? Oh there’s a second step?”

These are just a few example, albeit with a bit of recency bias. But it seems to never end. So many dummies.

Granted, there are a few things that could be clearer to both pros and newbs alike (e.g. that 80% CPU should be seen as 100% CPU), but there is some basic ass shit that just flies over some people.

Ok. Rant over.

Someone circled that feature in the editor drop down which is super helpful. I don't pay attention to the FAS forum as much as i used to so it's tough to keep up on new stuff. Seems like most users there are in the Axe III are. I have the FM9.

Hoping they come out with an FM6 or similar to bridge the gap between too small and a little big. Seems like they are due for a new product? :guiness

To clarify is the refresh for just the editor or to refresh the unit for the FW? Seemed like it was just the editor because the nothing happened on my FM9

Refresh after firmware just tells the editor to go out and read block information on the device (AX3, FM9, FM3). Reading block information on the device ensures that the block information stored in the editor properly reflects any new features or changes included in the new firmware.

Hey all !

Just a thought about future Fractal FW moves for discussion.

By way of my current rig .... I have now moved fully over to a Kemper Stage and am running only full-ground-up Liquid Profiles - although they are still very rare on the ground. It gives me everything the Helix + Tonex did but with much more "natural" and easy tweaking .... but that's all just for the sake of transparency and where I'm coming from.

Re: Fractal ... my "sense" was/is that "their" version of Modeling + Profiling was going to be their next "big" release / step .... just my 2c based on C.C's reactions etc....

Obviously Fractal will keep tweaking and adding things to make their gear as good as they can ..... but do people think C.C will somehow try to re-visit "his" plans for "his" version of Modeling + Profiling (?)

Thanks,
Ben

Tone matching was meant to be the "make this model match your real amp of the same model", but it's only available on the Axe-Fx 3 and it's difficult enough to use and understand that most people never touch it. The tone matching manual alone is several pages long on how to setup all your gear for doing it right. The block itself is like getting a signal generator in front of you.

Compare this to something like QC or Tonex where it just tells you to connect this to that, set up levels and that's about it.

Pretty much the only bad parts of Fractal at this point are to do with usability. Axe-Edit is pretty great, but there's a lot that could be done in other areas.

If Fractal wants to do profiling/capturing, the main thing would be to make it easy for people to do and make it possible on the FM3/9 as well. It should be done more like Tonex where the processing is done on your computer because even the Axe-Fx 3 is far less powerful. Profiling/capturing could be an Axe-Edit/FMx-Edit feature or its own tool you can launch from it, like you do with FractalBot.

To me profiling would be only useful to get your specific favorite amp into the Fractal without painstakingly dialing one of the models to do it.

Agree, there are a lot of usability that could be simplified or added in edit software, i would much prefer seeing this instead of adding other amps or effects
we already have more than anyone could possibly even need or use

:idk

How is anyone supposed to know? Cliff teased that parent > 3 years ago. Frankly, I think I’m passed expecting anything to come of it, but ya never know. I imagine Cab Lab 4 is the more immediate project, since it was “just around the corner” back in May or something.

Also, I wonder how many people that own a Fractal unit have a large lineup of amps compared to those who buy profile/capture devices. I imagine the main idea behind the Kemper, Tone X, QC is to take your own amp tones on the go. Fractal has been build your own tones from the ground up for amps you don't have.

I know this isn't one size fits all as I've owned all the above and at times haven't had a large amp collection to capture but still bought 3rd party packs
