Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

Just like all the previous big updates, the DynaCabs let me get where I’m going considerably faster than what came before it. I don’t even think it’s the experience of mic’ing cabs previously because the only mic out of these I have experience with is the 57 and I’m using the Ribbon on 95% of the presets I’ve switched to DC’s on, it’s just faster to drag my mic in a 2” box than it is to pick an IR, play for a second, next IR, rinse and repeat. And it allows me to get closer or exactly what I’m going for rather than picking an IR that’s “good ‘nuff cuz I’m sick of looking”

I just move the mic in a swirl pattern from outside to in, it takes all of 15 seconds to move through the allotted space. That initial pass I’m just listening for a general idea of “not shit”, once I hear ”not shit” I just minimize that swirl until I find the the spot I’m looking for. I still do the same thing with these I did with IR’s in that I dial in the cab before I start tweaking the amp block, so all the knobs are usually at noon, unless it’s a Mesa.

Do you do that playing solo'd or within the context of a track/full mix? Just curious... as I think
it is going to be super useful in helping define the tone for a particular track within a mix.

I am excited to get my engineer here moving that Mic all over the place in real time. Faster you fuck!! :horse

"Stop! Right there! No. Back 2 cm. Now to the right a little. Ok. Freeze! Hold it. Don't move!"

Mostly solo'd, I think I found a happy medium between "this is fun to play through" and "I won't need to EQ the shit out of this later to fit a mix", at most I might dial in a tad more low end than I'd need for a mix.

These Dyna Cabs are really bringing to life some amps I didn't think I liked. The Legacy Cabs
just sound dark and a bit muffled to me.

Splawn Quick Rood is one I am really digging, but never did before. Go figure! :idk

I keep trying the dyna cabs and they sound more clear but thinner. If the mic is close it's really fizzy too. I keep going back to the IR I like but really want the dyna to work....
How much hi cut low cut are you messing with?
Low cut 75
Hi cut 6500

SM7 (dynamic 2) move it off center and pull it back somewhere between 5 and 7 cm
I like the Marshall cab , The Freidman and Mesa slant depending on the amp model

You could also blend in the 121
That takes care of the thinness as well put it near center pull it back a bit so it not boomy

Also look a different levels when mixing put you 57 -3db if to harsh or Ribbon -3db if too bassy

Are you going for rock tones or? Marshall based amps? Care to share a pre et? I will share mine I use the FM9
A buddy shared his Friedman pre set with the dynas and they were ok because he set the depth and gain super high. It did not work for me. I'm using either Plexi amps or Solodano in the FAS platform

I am not in front of FM9 at moment
But I can share something sure
It was a Bogner Red into the Freidmans more a rock tone / hard rock tone

I use a lot more cuts than I used to especially with the Dyna Cabs. Anywhere from 80-100 at 12db/octave on the lows and on the highs start at 8k but can go down to 6k or even 5k at 12db/octave. The Dyna Cabs are definitely brighter and if you use ribbons can have more lows as well.
