Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

I can still see some uses for the Legacy Cabs..... but holy crap there is a massive difference between the two options.
Still worth reminding that the Dyna-Cabs do put a lot more requirement to the user to dial them in whereas IRs may or may not sound good depending on what you prefer.

For 1 mic setups I use the Condenser type.
For 2 mic setups I use Dynamic 1 or 2 + Ribbon. Either pan them or adjust one of them to a lower level to blend it in just right. Try the Align tab to add a bit of phasiness for smoothing them out.

Still haven't ventured into 3 or 4 mic setups enough to make it worth my time. Usually the sound is not better than 1/2 mics.

I might Install Tomorrow, but don't need Dynacabs ATM maybe next song, But now got me My Trusted LT TVmix IR's and they are doing the trick ATM

I think you said you wanted the faster amp block channel switching, though?
True I did, but in this patch me only have 1 amp so no rush :D
One amp 2 Scene's Rhythm and Solo, Drive engaged in the solo
About as simple as one can get

You just kinda reminded me to get back onto keeping it simple thing with the FM3. I loaded my favorite YA IR and it instantly sounded better than the dynacabs I had. I doubt it's the dynacabs. More like my ability at this point to dial them in.

I honestly think the FM9/AFXIII with Dynacabs is the best sounding digital amp system I’ve ever heard. The Dynacabs compete very well with top-line IRs and in some cases I like them more than even the best IRs I’ve tried. Cliff makes great stuff and I love the constant updates, even if it means I need to re make my patches every few months.

I still think the Ribbon might be a KSM313.

I think so too. Cliff has written that it's his favorite mic.

The Soyuz is awesome. All I use. Not sure if it’s the 1973 though but it doesn’t matter.

It is the 1973:

Best sounding condenser mic I've ever used (hint, hint, wink, wink).

Just like all the previous big updates, the DynaCabs let me get where I’m going considerably faster than what came before it. I don’t even think it’s the experience of mic’ing cabs previously because the only mic out of these I have experience with is the 57 and I’m using the Ribbon on 95% of the presets I’ve switched to DC’s on, it’s just faster to drag my mic in a 2” box than it is to pick an IR, play for a second, next IR, rinse and repeat. And it allows me to get closer or exactly what I’m going for rather than picking an IR that’s “good ‘nuff cuz I’m sick of looking”

I just move the mic in a swirl pattern from outside to in, it takes all of 15 seconds to move through the allotted space. That initial pass I’m just listening for a general idea of “not shit”, once I hear ”not shit” I just minimize that swirl until I find the the spot I’m looking for. I still do the same thing with these I did with IR’s in that I dial in the cab before I start tweaking the amp block, so all the knobs are usually at noon, unless it’s a Mesa.

I am using the ribbon 100% of the time and love it! I have 4 cabs in my kitchen sink preset and all are using the ribbon. Totally with you on the "I got sick of looking" through the IR's in the old way. Then again, unlike many here, I am more into learning new songs and writing new songs than I am interested in tweaking the ultimate tone, so I am an easy date! But DC makes dating the cabs a walk in the park IMO!!
