Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

I think us old farts like and love mid forward amps. Amps without the thunderous low end that arrived
on the scene in the late 80s/early 90s and made bass players increasingly useless and unheard.

Seriously! :idk

What some seem to suggest is honky literally gives room and air for the bass and keys and drums to breath.

I like and love down-tuned music through Mesas, too..... so it is not always the fight to the death love/hate
thing that others seems to have. Just being aware of the generational trends, and how they often go too far
one way or another, before some semblance of sanity and balance is restored.

Now I am off to listen to some Schenker with his Wah half-cocked. :love :beer
EL84s have a nice mid-forward character.

:sofa

:rofl

I saw that Plexi resistor report on the FAS forum and read it with interest.

It's impressive that you just keep going and won't let go. 🙂

Which makes me think of...

This harkens back to yesterday's Randy discussion. Big recently recurring example for me. I LOVE the Marshall tones on Screaming for Vengeance yet despite loving Piece of Mind; I have grown to hate those guitar tones when I hear them come on Sirius. All mids and nothing else is fatiguing to me anymore. I don't ever wanna hear Boston songs again either, for that matter

I love Schenker tones so who knows wtf is the problem :ROFLMAO:

For some reason my ears hear a more classic sound with the pre-updated version

I personally preferred the updated version and remember thinking that the pre-updated version sounded too middy for my tastes.

It's true that the mid forward gear cuts better in the mix but the flatter or slightly scooped tones sound more satisfying to me when playing alone.

So true. The guy playing alone most of the time goes to play with others and wonders why he can't hear himself.

That absolutely happened to me once. I was playing with some friends and when playing by myself my amp was loud AF but when we were all playing together I couldn't hear myself.

I turned up the treble and it still wasn't cutting. I boosted the mids and there it was!

Lesson learned.

I'd love me a Dr. Z loaded with EL84s to get my Paisley on. :love

I do struggle with someone like Brian May's tone. It's iconic and
sounds great in Queen, but that blasting AC30 thing is not my
favourite colour in the tonal palette. :idk
You can totally do that
Take the DRZ switch tone stack to the TW Liverpool type , switch power tubes to EL84 that the Z Wreck

That said there are worse things than mids , my wife was listen to the hair metal show the other day and after listening to modern production like Alter Bridge
Shinedown , AIC etc I am seriously shocked but not only how bad , thin the guitars are but also the horrible productions that sound like your in a washroom there is so much reverb and the snare drum sounds like a tin can the mix sounds like an am radio with the mids completely sucked out
