So saw a post from Brent yesterday getting bandied about the sewing circle internet space

I kinda continue to not believe him. Then I see this on a FB post
"Okay, story time:
So I had the privilege while I was A&R for Friedman of working with Bill Kelliher. He was a gentleman. Always eager to play ball, do his part and contribute ideas. I’ll be it, when it came time to do his signature he basically in the end went the route of having a replica of Jerry Cantrell’s amp but with more gain on tap (the original proto was fucking fire, it sounded like an amp you would have heard Slipknot use during their heaviest days). But he was really easy to work with and very logical with what he wanted. Brent, having heard Bill’s amp decided he wanted to possibly jump on board too. What does he ask for though? He wants an amp with fucking horns on it that has smoke/fog coming out of it when he plays.
It was at that moment I realized, okay he might not be “all there” if you catch my drift.
My next indicator of this came when one day Bill calls us in a bit of a bind because Brent had a house party/family-gathering and while he was there he stabbed his cousin. Yup. Stabbed him. Now he didn’t die or anything, but the band and their management and their label had to pay BIG TIME and quick Hush Money to keep the news out of the public’s eye. It would have seriously cost the band heavily. Remember this wasn’t the time where Mastodon was “the huge metal band that did leviathan”, this was when they were breaking into the mainstream radio rock movement and doing TV appearances. When I heard that it all happened because he was loaded off his ass and just acting like an out of his mind lunatic I said to myself, “yeah I really think he truly isn’t all there”.
Lastly, I was at the studio in Garden Grove with my buddies Pete, Ty and Steve (Evetts), Ben Weiman had been working tirelessly on what was to become Giraffe Tongue Orchestra. During the course of these sessions there were a lot of issues; the original drummer bailed, Juliette Lewis (who was sweet as could be in person) and would was supposed to be their singer wasn’t getting lyrics written in time and she was constantly out of town shooting movies/shows, and then there was Brent… Steve came to me one night and we just talked for hours over subway sandwiches (I believe, maybe it was pizza) and he tells me “Brent is an absolutely insane guitarist, his hybrid picking is out of this fucking universe… but, he’s fucking insane. He writes a cool solo one day, and then then next day he can’t remember what he played, let alone that he was even at the studio the day before. So Ben has to write all the material, and then we roll tape and hope to catch something cool from Brent, because he won’t remember it 10 minutes later”. And it was official at that moment I went “he’s definitely not all there mentally”.
Talking to Bill a short time after he tells me, “people wonder why our sound is different, we used to be a band, now I have to write all the material and our drummer has to take the vocal place of Brent because he can’t write anymore. Brent has nothing to do with our records anymore besides tracking solos and catching vocal harmonies which we have to hope he will sing in key and in a style we want, because if he doesn’t we can’t use them”. I say “where there is smoke there is fire, and you don’t hear the same story from multiple reliable sources and just write it off, especially when you see it for yourself”. Brent is an insane player, the stuff he wrote for Mastodon is legendary, but some time ago he pulled a Gary Busey and hasn’t been right since. To hear him trashing the band now, doesn’t surprise me, but it’s not on them what happened. They just couldn’t justify it anymore. Imagine having to come to terms with firing a guy who is the face of the band, you have to have some real provocation to do it. And they did. I hope whoever they end up with is the right fit. I can tell you Nick Johnston is a good start, he isn’t Brent… but fuck he can play."
Spaced it out a bit for "readability" but if true; that explains A LOT, imo.
