Nick Johnston is touring with Mastodon

I think he's more than a little boring, bland, a bit tepid, and lacking the kind of rawness and fire I associate
with Mastodon.

Maybe they want boring and bland (and easy to get along with and control) after years
of the Brent-shenanigans. :idk

I’m hoping they’re just casting a wide net and giving everything a live test. They spend a lot of time on the road so they gotta know they can all hang. There’s ample dudes who can play the parts, but man, they gotta find someone who actually cares about it.

This is why I’m never really opposed to a fan stepping in these spots. Jay Weinberg with Slipknot was a great example, dude grew up on Joey Jordison and knew to respect that in the band and still did his own thing. Todd joining Ryche. Ripper, etc.

Jay was KILLER in Suicidal last week. Super surprised on that, despite knowing what kind of drum skill Slipknot requires.

In case anyone wants to noodle over it, I found a drums/bass/vocal version of "More Than I Could Chew" and put the rhythm guitars over it to make a backing track for the solo section.....for absolutely no reason at all. :whistle

Nick is a great musician, and honestly I'm not aware of Mastodon's catalog of music much at all, but even from my limited exposure to them it seems like an odd mix? As long as both parties are enjoying it I wish them well.

Side note but are they running a silent stage? They are the last band I thought would do that! So odd not seeing stacks of amps.
