What are we watching now?

Watched the first episode of the new Lord of the Rings series on Amazon, not particularly motivated to watch the second.

I'm not a fan of the genre, but I'm finding it fascinating after the first episode or two

I’ll watch the second episode to see where it goes. Got a little twitchy in the first episode seeing Elrond being subservient to *insert strong female character*

Not all cultures are patriarchal---even when we take the current human population into account
here on Earth. It can't be that big of a stretch.

Cherokee Nation is a long-standing matriarchal culture. That's just one, and they are not even Elves.

I actually enjoy having my inherited cultural biases checked and challenged. That's just me, though.

I havent checked the whole thread but I am digging the new Steve Carrell mini-series The Patient. Other than naming the serial killer Sam, it's a pretty original idea I think and great acting too.

Seriously; all I have done over the last few months is walk around the house driving my wife nuts yelling "Gabagool!" in Tony's voice :banana

I keep throwing a coin up between this one and the Game of Thrones spin off. They both keep losing.

I’m the same way. I’m a huge fan of the LOTR movies (and actually watched all the extended versions in one day when the extended version of ROTK came out…..I think I smoked an entire ounce of weed that day) and I loved GOT, but I get the idea these shows are just going to taint my memories of both shows.

One of the most jarring episodes is one of the dream sequence ones (and I am not usually a fan of those in ANY series) where Tony is walking around that convention as Kevin Finnerty. That voice change is nuts. Gandolfini was awesome.

I watched the new Dahmer series on Netflix this week.

Didn’t realize viewing it was going to be as polarizing as it was, there’s a discussion on it on that other forum and several people keep trying to shoehorn in the idea that it’s just the gore and violence those of us watching are after. Man, I watch interrogation videos nonstop, I LOVE true crime and the gore/violence has NOTHING to do with it, I can’t stomach that sh*t.

But I’m fascinated with the mentality behind a lot of these guys and the Dahmer series was a really great insight into everything that led up to him becoming what he became. Pretty good series, I just had to fast forward/turn my head a few times.

Man, those dream episodes pissed me off. I can’t stand them in any show because they RARELY actually tie into the content of the show, 97% of the time they just come off as filler to me. I don’t remember that particular episode I just remember being really perturbed and waiting for them to be over.

We are usually all in on that kind of thing. Evan Peters(?) was great. Dude needs to go take a shower and do a Reese Witherspoon flick or 5 :rofl

It was both too gross and sad yet completely disconnected because psychopathy so it was really impossible to connect to in any way for me? We are stalled out on ep 4ish? You can certainly tell AHS dude had his hand in it. Both good and bad. Richard Jenkins did great but I remember reading things like "he came from a normal home we had no idea" then the show portrays him bonded over taxidermy then leaving him for 6 months at a time on his own.

:wat

If I had to sit through a dream sequence episode in real time, one episode a week? HELL NO. Thank god for binge watching!

Evan Peters has continuously impressed me, even with just the range he pulled off throughout AHS. His role in Dahmer was…..damn, man.

I didn’t really get to hear a lot about Dahmer when it was happening, the most I knew going into this show was specific to his crimes and none of his history. I did some extra reading after and it seems the doc was rather spot on according to everything I read. But also, I think we’ve learned a LOT in the last 30 years how childhood sh*t can create a monster if it goes unchecked long enough and I wonder how much of that has changed the way criminal psychologists now look back on Dahmer’s childhood.

I am betting his brother (who from what I read has changed his name and been hiding in plain sight for decades) is probably not too excited about this resurgence of activity :bag
