UAFX Knuckles ‘92 Rev F Dual Rec - leak?

bollocks, give FAS a few weeks to measure it and we'll be in an even higher rung of tweaker heaven.

nice to see some decent video production on UA stuff again, years ago all their releases had GREAT videos. First one in a while where it seems like they had some budget

Not even that high budget (just great editing) but captures the right vibe, companies should be doing this stuff as a minimum. Sounds here are some of the best I’ve heard. I can’t tell if my mental image of a recto is wrong or something about the sounds out of the pedal aren’t quite there…. Can scrutinise it properly when the plugin comes I guess

With that many revisions & how they differ in tonality, I think it's very easy to feel that way. I for one haven't played a Recto I liked to this day. For a very long time I just hated them because of the sounds I got from the ones I played (no clue what revisions etc - I wasn't that knowledgeable back then). Nowadays, I guess I can tolerate them with a boost in front.

I’m in the same camp. I had a Dual Rec for about year, purchased because a bunch of bands I liked were using them and had sweet tones and I could not get anything I liked out of it. Still think other people can make them sound great, just not my thing. I’m glad someone besides Sweetwater demo’d this though, because that demo sounded like what I always made a recto sound like. Poop.

has anyone got the SCOOP on what UA's poweramp modelling is like. I believe Knuckles has the ability to just run the poweramp on its own?

Is there actual modelling going on here, or just basic waveshaper type stuff?

Any way to determine which load each amp was modelled under? are they changing impedance curves in the models when you change cabs?

I hadn't realised that the dumble model allows you to customise the circuit pretty deeply, that should make for a good plugin. The Recto model also has all the modes and switches and should make for a decent plugin, if everything is up to snuff.

Do we have to bank on @FractalAudio again?

That axe bill is playing looks interesting!!

What makes you think there is no power amp modeling? It's there on all the pedals.

I do think there is power amp modelling, I’m trying to work out whether or not it’s a simple/generic poweramp model, or one that changes its impedance interactions based on the cabinet used.

It’s not really clear what “state” the poweramp is in when you set the cabinet to direct. Its also not clear if changing cabs simply changes an IR, or if there is more to it.

Knuckles time!!

why didn’t you show what adjusting the master volume control does? 😩

Are you going to do an A/B comparison to your real amps? Am I noticing a kind of distinctive attack with the Anti and Knuckles pedal? There’s something about the distortion attack that seems a little weird to me but it could be something to do with the poweramp distorting.

Didn't I? Perhaps because of the volume difference. Either way, it reacts exactly how you'd expect it to.... It compresses, saturates and darkens the tone...

Yeah, I was hoping to hear less poweramp distortion, like maybe how the amp sounds in the first 1/3rd of the taper. Every single video seems to be demoing it set higher than I like the amp set (and probably louder than they’d dial the real amp in).

In fact, when using a real amp, if you think of the whole process of setting it up, most of us turn the master down before powering on, and then slowly bring it up as the FIRST thing we do. Recto’s have a lot of low end and top end, so the onset of poweramp distortion can be quite subtle/gradual, where it might just be taming the very loudest excursions.

A man who knows his Recto

Excellent effort as always, Jon. But man, it sounds like a POD XT.

I will say that the weak point for me in terms of the tone are the built in cabs and the fact that you can't load your own. The stock cabs aren't bad but they're all pretty bright and "open". For this video I wanted showcase the unit stock, but when I tried it with my familiar ML IRs it sounded a bit better in the top end. Something to take note of.

Kind of pointless though in the long run, unless you plan on carrying a separate IR loader.
