So, about that Fender spring reverb…

Does anyone know if the spring reverb in the Tone Master amps is the same as what is in the TMP?

Are there any pedals or other digital devices that are as good?

Am I destined to buy another TMP, or is there another way?

Outside of the boss pedal, has fender ever stamped their name on an official digital product replicating the ‘63 standalone spring unit?

I would not at all be surprised if a tonemaster spring reverb product rears its head in the not too distant future.

The Fender website advertises convolution reverb for the Tone Master amps so I'd expect yes.

IMO reverb is incredibly subjective. I don't even like a lot of real amp spring reverbs that much. My big beef with most of them is that they just have a single level control and no way to control the tail of the reverb beyond swapping for a different tank, modding in a dwell control or using a digital reverb instead.

My favorite built in amp reverb is actually the digital reverb that was on the Victory VC35 I had. It was more plate-like.

I don’t think they have. They need to do an updated version of that with modern technology. That old Boss one is really showing its age.

If they put the Tone Master spring reverbs in a pedal that would be amazing!

Paging @stilwel

The latest Axe-Fx III firmware has an excellent '63 spring reverb that will be ported to the FM-9 and VP-4 soon.

That’s great! Unfortunately for me that includes every Fractal device except for the one I use

The convolution reverb is incredibly good on TMP, that's all I know! It does use a lot of DSP though.

It’s so good. I’ve been haunted by it ever since I sold my TMP…

Probably against modern conventional wisdom, but I usually just reach for the Helix legacy ‘63 when I want a spring sound. It’s old and there’s probably higher res stuff out there but I lump spring into lofi adjacent tools anyway so I’m not really looking for pristine detail.

Maybe. We need to discuss it with the engineering team.

I know that’s a tough decision since you know you’ll get some people complaining that they can’t use it in their kitchen sink preset, but it really would be great for those of us who use the fm3 along with outboard gear as part of our rig rather than as an all-in-one.

A lot of times I just want to be able to use my fm3 as a stand-in for an amp. I just want it to give me a Deluxe Reverb amp with reverb and tremolo, but the reverb is always the problem with trying to do that.

I’ve always struggled with that one. When I use spring reverb I’m usually looking for that big drippy splashy surfy sound and the old Helix ones just don’t do that

That would be a cool move
I think as long as they gave the disclaimer this is likely to limit your preset blocks and cpu

But ya to the guy who really just wants and can live with say a drive pedal ,compressor amp , cab , delay , spring
Having the option would be a win for sure

That said now that you can have gapless presets
You could just switch to the one preset using a amp cab spring

I haven’t used spring verb in a while. I guess I’ll have to verify my memory isn’t bad. I do remember it being very particular about placement in that it needs to be used before the amp to approximate the way the actual hardware was used during that period.

It’s an old algorithm though, so I wouldn’t be shocked if it doesn’t hold up against some newer options.

Please try to find a Boss/ Fender collab FRV-1. Yes, it's digital. Yup, its old. But it's good. Boss fangirl here.

You can also take a look at the surfybear stuff. Source Audio's reverb algos sound good too. A friend has their pedal.

FM3 Owners are all....

Not me, though. I get my Oingo Boingo elsewhere. :beer

The best I’ve used is the SA Ventris. I think it’s slightly better than the previous/current fm9 public release. Slightly, might just come down to preference.

The new stuff on the 3 may change my mind once it moves to fm9.

But if you need a pedal, look at the Ventris or sa true spring or the surfy bear if you’re open to that.

1. Yes. The Convolution spring in TMP is the same as the TM amps.
2. No, but that’s, like, my opinion, man.
3. Yes and No.

That's why I like the L6 '63 spring...it doesn't go poing, poing incessantly. If you want to do a song that needs that sound, use the hot springs instead.
