Rob Chapman "joins" Atomic Amps ..... "major new" release coming very soon

Really loved the original Amplifire Box, that thing had some great amp tones, especially in the he realm of hi-gh gain. I'd love to see Atomic make a comeback but I would be a bit surprised if Rob Chapman was able to help them right the ship from their current sinking status. I hope they put out a new, competitive product. I'd certainly be interested.
It can’t be just Rob IMO they will need to have some other backers and probably do , maybe we will find out at NAMM in January

It’s always great to have more competitors on the modelers market and amplifire sure could make really great tones.

BUT… I really don’t trust this guy at all, never liked him, just acts like a salesman full of himself.

Don’t know why but I don’t trust him at all.

Guys like him, rabea and the others are just cash machines.
Always praising new gear that just give the better checks.

Glad to hear. I'm thinking about getting an Ampli-Firebox Mark II.

Customer support aside, does anyone have thoughts about this?

I want something small and light for practice when traveling.

I got one in a trade a year or two ago and plugged it in for about 15 minutes then sold it on Reverb later that day. It did nothing for me. Sounded like old modeling tech. I was listening to a shootout of HX Stomp and Atomic a few days ago and they are pretty close with the same IR, but the Stomp has way more features and flexibility.

Defenitely can't agree on that. Of the "good" models, I usually prefer the AFB ones over the HX series ones. I do however use different IRs for them, which I thought was kinda strange but after a while I just accepted it.

I agree with Jarick. I bought an AmpliFIREBOX on Reverb, and it was on Reverb the next day. Awful tones.

The Mesa tones are crap

I know. The Marhall tones however are excellent. So is the Kornfield, the Bman, the D Luxe and (at least partially) the Rumbles. For me, the Bman (even if with a little bit of pre- and post-EQ plus some IR trickery) is the best pedal platform amp I have found so far.

Eh. The Marshalls are okay. Still can’t touch Fractal.

Depends on your needs.

I bought a FM3 with the idea that it would be my personal travel rig for when I visited friends in New England and traveled abroad on vacation but I realized that it took up a significant amount of space in my carry-on sized luggage and added more weight than I wanted as well.

What I wanted was something that would fit in the pocket of my gig bag and wouldn't add a lot of weight when I put it on my back thus taking up no space in my suitcase at all.

Even with all of the cons that some felt the Ampli-Firebox Mark II has, the form factor was a big plus for me. Nothing else I was considering was that small and light except the Simplifier Deluxe. I tried one but just didn't bond with it.

Reading the positive reviews and hearing the clips I figured the Atomic tones would be good enough for my purposes; mostly practicing at friends houses late at night or in hotel rooms when traveling abroad. If asked to sit in, like I was when in Colombia, I could put it in front of any amp in their backline and it would be fine for the occasion.

Given my needs for it, the fact that my FM9 will almost certainly sound better is a non-issue. If I can get a good clean sound with good reverb for playing Jazz, and a good lead tone for when I want to rock out, that's all I need. From what I can tell the Ampli-Firebox Mk II has that well covered.

Honestly, for that I’d just bring an iPad or laptop, and get ToneX to capture your favorite FM9 patches.

The Ampli-Firebox sounded pretty good. Though to me it was a six of one half dozen of another between using it and a few other pedals or just going with an all in one amp modeler/mfx. In many ways an all in one digital solution can be easier since it’s self contained. Though if someone has a bunch of go to pedals modular amp substitute is cool too.

All of that costs a lot more than the $299 I'm paying for the Ampli-Firebox.

Clearly you don't like it. Not everything is for everyone. I'm hoping it will be a good fit for me. If not, the quest for a small and light practice box will continue.

A few years ago I had a gig just a couple days after coming home so I had to practice a bit during the vacation. Brought a small Focusrite interface, headphones and downloaded a few Neural plugins and used the trial periods. Worked very well for the purpose. (y)
