Rob Chapman "joins" Atomic Amps ..... "major new" release coming very soon

I see your point.
Digital cameras are superior in every way
:sofa
I'm actually oddly qualified to speak to that. Digital cameras are extremely convenient, however they carry a similar drawback to that of modelers: there's always going to be something better, hence they obsolete as technology does. Also, analog forces you to be creative within the confines of the medium. Digital photography makes it too easy in a lot of ways, to just take tons and tons of pics, delete, modify on the fly, etc.

They both have their purposes. But tbh, if I were to go back into event photography, I'd stick with digital, for sure.

That's not a very valid comparison though, since modelers are aiming to emulate tube amps to begin with. Tube amps are the standard to be judged against. It's like comparing digital cameras to film.

I never cared what modelers were emulating. The only relevant things for me being whether I like to play a sound and whether it suits the context (or job). As a result of that, no, I'm not comparing anything to a tube amp. There's no need for me doing so. In fact, one of the main reasons for me to use modelers is to finally overcome the (several) limitations of real tube ampa and cabs.

As a result of all that, I don't need a modeler to improve in case the sound coming out of it is already matching all my criteria.
Oh yes, I'd like to see a vastly improved Amplifirebox, but pretty much all the improvements I'd like to see aren't related to the sound at all.

Including activities with dark room partners of the opposite sex in high school photography classes while waiting for chemicals to do their thing :rollsafe

100 billionty percent.

Yeah. If this ends up being just another "FRFR" cab, i'll be really pissed at Chapman for having us waste 11 pages of posts on thin smoke.

Nothing wrong with Atomic FRFRs - i hear they're pretty damn good. But it's hardly an innovative, nor highly requested product.
“Hey, we’ve got this killer monitor that Jay designed for us. Let’s scrap that and get someone with less-than-Jay’s monitor design expertise to design for us”.

All of these options are yawn-worthy. Bassbox, Amplifirebox with MIDI and CLR, but make the products actually available and readily repairable through a responsive customer support channel and you have a bangin’ little business.

“Take the Amplifire and give it the Headruah UI” is about as much of a pipe dream as “Take the Headruah make it sound as good as an Axe Fx III with all of the Axe FX IIi’s content” or “Have the Axe Fx available through GC and Sweetwater with 0% interest for 24 months”

Honestly, re-packaging existing Atomic/StudioDevil tech with new UX is, by far, the most realistic of those three. And for some reason, they've been unable to, for over a decade now.

It's a shame. As many others mentioned, i think Atomic's amp sims deserve a much better treatment.

With this talk of the Firebox sounding bad I thought I would break mine out. I didn't remember it being horrible. I remember preferring the Kemper but I liked the Recto in the Firebox more than the Recto in the Helix.

Here's the comparison I mentioned.

With the same IR, they sound extremely close. But the Stomp is going to have a much better interface, way more effects, is still actively developed, has a way better editor, etc.

Having owned both, i'd say models are indeed comparable. And some cases (Marshall tones), i found the AFB to sound a tad better.

But... yeah. The Stomp does so much more than Amplifire products, it's not even a fair comparison anymore.

Sounds good. You got better sounds than I did.

But the Stomp is going to have a much better interface

For my needs, the Stomp has a way worse interface. It's got only 3 knobs, their ballistics IMO are terribly scaled after the 3.6 update and you don't even see the most relevant parameters on one page, so each and every adjustment turns into a clickfest with lots of chances for errors (as you can't just disable the switches completely from being touch sensitive).
The AFB however is WYSIWYG (at least in my case) and adjusting anything is as easy as it gets.

Sounds like you have your preference.

so the summary of all of this is "Rob Chapman got a job as brand ambassador at Atomic because he needs to pay his bills". Gripping stuff, totally worth it of 12 pages of conversation and surely will get longer. Cool!

The only reason anyone cared is because he teased them releasing "something major for the 20th anniversary".......at some point.

...and we are all very bored and clearly avoiding doing anything productive to talk about it for 12 pages...
