Helix 3.8 when?

There is something wrong with these numbers e.g. the Vitriol Lead uses as much DSP as the EV Panama Red.
[5x Heir Apparent + 1 gain is max that you can add to either a EV Panama Red or a Vitriol Lead.]

Maybe these models share resources so when you use both in a patch they use less DSP or something.
You are correct - when I just looked again, where I'd meant to drop in a PV Vitriol Lead, I actually dropped in a PV Vitriol Clean.

I've updated accordingly:

What settings are you using on Pillars for this?
Nothing too novel. Gain 0, Level and Tone to taste. Middle position on the toggle. I think this is my favorite position on the Pillars, even though I generally prefer one of the other two positions on the physical Plumes pedal. It's been a hot minute since I've used my Plumes though, so my memory may be a little off.

I just tried the new Soldano cab. Most of the mics sound really dark, even when set to center of the cone. Are these speakers really that dark? Almost sounds like something is wrong with this cab because all the mic options are so dark.

Is that just how they are?

Yes. The EM Legend speakers have an early and steep roll off which makes them sound very smooth/dark. This can be useful with bright amps like the SLO - use presence to compensate.

Fwiw, HX Edit is coming up with several graphical "inaccuracies" regularly ever since the update (white squares covering parts of the UI, especially the browser). Looks as if it was about to freeze in, but fortunately it doesn't.
Macbook Air M3, macOS 15.0.1.

What do you make of the YouTube metoo wisdom that you can't use a gain of zero on plugin or modelled versions of gain pedals? I ask in every comment section of a video that I see it in why they say it but I've never gotten an answer. My own REW tests with these things don;t give me a reason either

When you do the level, are you going to unity gain? Lower or higher? Helix's tube screamer has a drastic level drop. I believe it doesn't even reach unity at full level. I'm trying to get an idea of where to start with these as i don't actually use pedals...Ive been fine with Helix's tube screamer set to gain 1 and level 10, but not sure where to go with pillars

I haven’t measured it or anything but Pillars SEEMS to have more level available than a lot of the traditional OD models and I feel like I can run the gain up to 2-3 with a distorted amp before I can really hear the distortion character of the amp changing. And it doesn’t give the high-mid “scratch” of a TS as a boost.

Not sure if you can answer but why does something like Bogner that has so many switches run so low cpu
Vs the Vitriol or EV red ?
I would have figured the opposite would be true

Number of tube stages?

I don't think know if the number of switches matter in terms of CPU load (it does matter in terms of modeling effort).

Thanks! I'm really struggling to find a decent starting point for level with the new Panama Red...

I really don't need the thing I ban people from our recording forums for "use your ears bro" and not accusing anyone of that, but I'm looking for a setting, yes i know it depends on four billion factors blah blah blah, yet when you look at peoples' rigs, they have remarkably consistent settings

I'm just hoping for a starting point of roughly how much boost someone would be putting with this thing before the amp. Does it also act as a HPF the way the tube screamer does?

The tone control is more like tilt EQ. Higher leans toward upper frequencies lower the opposite. I use hot active pickups and I run it with the gain at like .5, tone 4-5, level 4-5, mode 2.

Anybody else find updating a Stomp with a M1 Mac takes a long time? My macbook is much faster than my old pc but backing up my stomp or updating takes a lot longer than it did on my old windows laptop. I'd love to know why.

Tried the obvious, as in using a different USB cable? As I switched from a Mac Pro to a Macbook Air, I'm using plenty of them these days - and the differences are partially huge, defenitely not "it's digital, so if it works, it just works".
Others than that, over here things seem to be as fast as ever (but I never used HX Edit on Windows).
