Fractal Talk

Can you guys give me a quick sanity check on this idea?

I’m thinking about running a few analog pedals after my fm3.

I’m thinking I should be able to run an instrument level out from the fm3 into the pedals, and then go from the pedal output to a DI box to the board.

That shouldn’t be a problem right?
I imagine it'll be fine! My question is why after though and not in an effects loop style or in front?

Keep on overcomplicating things, Met. We all love you for it! :cheers

I was thinking of pedals like delay/reverb I’d want to run post-amp and figured since I’d always want them post I could save myself an AD/DA conversion by not using a loop

Haha, no I’m trying to simplify!

I’m trying to decide if I need to buy an fc-6 and my thinking is if I had either a couple drive pedals up front or chorus and delay pedals after then I wouldn’t need any more than the three switches on the unit.

I already need to have a small board and power supply to handle the MIDI channel switcher for routing my instruments, so I might as well add a couple pedals to that and save myself the need for an fc-6

I love my Fender Roadworn Strat. I don’t give a single shit if the wear is fake, done from a template, or done from years of playing.

It’s lightweight, plays great, sounds great, and feels great in my hands. Plus, I can beat the living hell out of it without the slightest worry about getting a ding.

And it didn’t cost me any more than a regular MIM Strat.
I also beat the hell out of my American Elite Strat lol (my profile pic), it's a tank really, and I got it in 2018 when prices were a little less crazy. It's my #1 and it shows! I think Strats are meant to be played and abused a bit.

I was just teasing ya. I am dumb that way. :beer

I have run pedals before and within my FM3. I have never felt a need to
purchase an FC-6 and literally double the size of my footprint real estate.

Right now I have a Wah out front and a Mission EXP that I can assign 2
tasks to. Right now it controls Global Volume and Delay Mix. Love having
one EXP Pedal that can do double-duty. :chef

Need some AXE3 pro help. I want to be able to listen to music via my computer along with my Axe. I have studio monitors hooked up directly to Axe 3 and Axe 3 connected to Focusrite Scarlett Solo via usb to use Axe Edit. What do I have to change in the Axe3 settings/Macbook to utilize USB audio? Do I have to use a DAW? I also have a small set of studio monitors that are hooked up directly to the back of the Scarlett to use my Spotify, YouTube, etc. I would like to be able to listen to music through the studio monitors that are hooked to the Axe3 as well if I wanted to. Is this doable? Thanks!

New cool feature: ducking in the tremolo block.

Of course they release this after I spent a few hours trying to nail the envelope modifier on the tremolo to get the bias trem in the trem block to do what the amp block bias trem does. I did that so I could have that same vibe but with the ability to tempo synch the trem. The downside was that I didn’t realize it was going to apply that to my entire block so I later learned that my optical trem was ducking like my bias trem.

The new ducking feature solves that problem.

Getting impatient, considering updating to a beta FW even though my better judgement says to wait…

The easiest solution is to engage direct monitoring on your Scarlett Solo -- this will take the analog signal that is hitting its input (output from your AxeFx) and mix it in with whatever is already being sent to its analog output (i.e., everything coming from your computer) and you'll hear it through your speakers.

Alternative options would be to go to choose the AxeFx as the audio input in your system/audio settings on your macbook and connect your studio monitors to your Axe Fx instead of your Scarlett.

No DAW needed for either of those options. Using a DAW as the point of mixing the two signals will add latency to your AxeFx signal and is non-preferred.

You can have a modifier apply to a single channel on a block if you want. At least in the FM9 and AFIII you can.

I couldn’t find a way to do it and the fractal forum said you couldn’t, but maybe we all just missed it? I’m on the fm9.

Don't have an FM9 and not sure about on-unit, but in Axe-Edit for the III it is here:

Can confirm, this is what I do 99% of the time when listening to music at home. The Axe-Fx III is my hifi at this point. (y)
Just plug in via USB and then choose Axe-Fx III as the output device in the top-right menu. It will show up in the list (as pictured) as an option.
No need to adjust any settings on the Axe itself. I just go to an empty preset when listening to music, but you can also play guitar at the same time by choosing any of your regular presets. It won't interfere with "outside" audio. I do this all the time when learning songs or just jamming.
