Fractal Talk

One of the replies to Leon's video was something like "I can't believe people are excited about something that should've been there from the start". SMH.

Probably the same person who left a comment the other day saying the Axe-Fx III was underpowered because it "uses a 15 year old CPU".

True, for you Met Form factor is important and well no Spring Reverb might be a small trade off, I use the golden plate but before i always used the London and it was amazing as was the north and south churches, think there are plenty of reverbs that will work really well

PS you could have both :pickle

True, and I do really like the other reverbs. The spring was the only one that didn’t do it for me before.

Maybe I’ll just have to go FM3 and get a Surfybear to go with it for the gigs where I need spring

I am not one that ever says “if there was never another update that would be fine” nor do I speculate that this is the beginning of the end because the FM3 is getting full BUT in this case after seeing this firmware IF the FM3 is winding down in the future what a hell of a way to end its run
Kudos to the Fractal team dev and designers ,

The FM3 began shipping in April of 2020. In fact, I received my invite on the 17th of April of 2020.

So it’s what, four years old? IMO, the FM3 still has plenty of life left.
Yeah, in terms of processing...maybe my memory is off, but it seems like updates to amp modeling never really hit CPU in any real meaningful way. I don't THINK they added memory to either the FM9 or FM3 MkII versions, so I'd be surprised if they were worried that any on-the-horizon core updates to working in Fractal world would fail to make it to the FM3 due to a lack of memory. MAYBE at some point there will be a DynaCab update that either won't fit or somehow needs some selection from the user re: what is loaded on the device? I'd say the Helix/Kemper product lifespan is the new normal and the FM3 will be part of the active product catalog for years to come.

Speaker Impedance Curve.

SIC is absolutely Sick !!

Anyone run into significant challenges using songs/setlists functionality with gapless switching and using the spillover capabilities? I’m wanting to try the songs/setlists stuff instead of the way I’ve been doing the automation (preset per song), because I’ve come up with a way to manage a preset list that covers my needs and isn’t too daunting.

One of the things I’ve noticed about the gapless switching that’s a little jarring for me is the instant changes in wet effects. I was previously using an external reverb pedal with helix that had two engines (thus true, full preset spillover). I’ve just learned to live with it, but part of my little project to test the songs and setlists is to see if I can get the transitions as smooth as possible. I’m thinking along the lines of setting all the wet stuff unbypassed with input gain at 0 so that the spillover will be as good as possible.

For anyone that’s tried to smooth this out as much as possible, what have you learned? Any approaches that work great or that don’t work and are a waste of time?

You have to have the same effect in both presets
You can have it bypassed but if you are going from a lead w delay back to crunch and you want a delay spillover you need booth presets to have the same block

I gotta be honest; I'm not hearing much difference in the modeling quality. It already was pretty much spot on.
Interesting this one I actually did notice a huge difference on the FM9
It was the noise floor w the new gate
And the pick attack and low end clarity and response

With my ears. The metal taste hasn't improved with Firmware 7.0. :rofl
No, I mean are you listening to it cranked on an “"FRFR"” at “gig levels” or over a set of ear buds or speakers?

I find that most modelers are in the ballpark from a tone standpoint until you are listening at gig levels or on a set of large studio monitors. That’s when you hear all the quirks and warts that make the Axe-FX stand out from the rest.

Same here I noticed a bigger difference than previous amp Improvement Updates ?
Im finding it better and have to say yes that new Gate was a godsend for me
Guess its true we don't all hear the same thing

:idk
