Fractal Talk

I know some comments are exaggerated but come on, the fm3 is 2 updates behind…

No updates since august, no gapeless already 2 refined algorithms behind the other units.
Total lack of communication also.

I understand it must be a headache to fit cliff’s idea in the fm3 and I really dont mind waiting but fractal is first of all high end commercial products and the total lack of official communications those past months are not a great move.

That’s not normal for buyers to see all the others units getting updates that are always commented as « game changer » « unbelievable tone » and having to find 3 posts on others forums to know if the update will gonna come one day or not.
I fully understand that Customers are in their right to complain a bit also.
This is bonkers. If Fractal had simply held onto the FM9 firmware update and NOt released it into the world until the FM3 update was ready, the argument falls apart entirely. Which shows how dumb it is.

This is like a first-to-arrive-twin giving older sibling life advice without any dose of sarcasm.

Or an adult continuing to hold a grudge about that year his parents spent 5% more on his sibling at Christmas.

Or a lottery winner complaining that they only get the full jackpot if they are willing to accept installment payments over many years.

This is bonkers.
Indeed. Do you think someone like Neil Schon, James Hetfield, or whatever touring musician who uses the Axe-FX sits in front of their computer, browsing the forum, waiting for the next firmware to drop?

I think there’s a large number of people who use these devices as a hobby and less as a tool for what they were designed for.

But hey, “different strokes,” “you do you,” and all that.

If firmware were a consumable good and your Fractal device stopped operating when it ran dry, and firmware was frequently out of stock with Fractal consistently prioritizing having III and 9 firmware available over 3 firmware, I could understand complaints. Sort of.

I mean, I resemble this remark to a degree. And I still understand/understood from the beginning, that I bought the red headed step-child with a learning disability ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it's reasonable to expect the FM3 public beta to come out today, since it was apparently veeerrry close to release on wednesday based on what was said by the man in charge of the whole operation.

Just wait until this update. It’ll be like your red headed stepchild dyed their hair brown and just graduated from Harvard with all the improvements. Not to mention all the new amp models.

Could you imagine the outrage if FAS decided to start charging $ for updates moving forward? lol
I'd say people would accept it if it meant things like new amp and fx models, rather than "pay to get Cygnus X4 modeling" type stuff. People are already willing to pay some money for things like IR or capture packs.

The constant firmware updates do have a positive effect for Fractal by making people talk about Fractal without spending any money on marketing. Compare this to Boss. Few people talk about the GT-1000, not because it's bad, but because it's not evolving in any way so there's no expectation and excitement for new things. Boss can only bring excitement by making a "GX-1000".

as the parent of a child with a learning disability who has sat in a parent-teacher-student conference with the following exchange, I’m prettty good at expectation management:

Teacher: “Bob, now that you’ve worked through some of the understandable problems you were having, do you think we can work towards getting ONE math problem done each day?”

Bob, being 100% honest and not a dick: “yeah. Uhm. I mean…I will TRY? But honestly, I just don’t think that’s gonna happen this year.”

The FM3 is one of the things that gives me joy and I'm excited for the update. I kinda wish they didn't actually give a timeline for a release, since something can always go wrong or the Axe III gets the seventh beta this week with a complete overhaul of something and they decide to include it in the FM3. :rofl

It appears that there might be a DynaCabs bug in the 25 release for the III. Hopefully it didn’t make it into the FM9 and FM3 betas, because that could potentially hold things up a little longer.

Yes. I am pretty excited to find out if the new spring reverbs made it into the FM3 myself. I get the anxiousness. I get the annoyance when specific expectations are set but not met.

“Entitlement” is not just overused, but also fails to capture all that I don’t get from the folks that are legit angry over the timing of this firmware release for the FM3.

No anger from me. Mild disappointment, yes, but I have many toys to play with in the meantime :rofl

Until you reamp :grin. Seriously. If you don't want to burst the "kid with new shoes" bubble of happiness, do not reamp to compare with the previous FW. The changes that you perceive with an objective A/B comparison may not reflect all these exuberant explosions of joy and delight that you can read at the forum. Just play and smile 😃
