Fractal Talk

Hopefully you'll continue to remind us on every forum you frequent how bad you think Fractal's UI is? It's been so consistent for so many years, it's almost endearing now.
Laxu is one of the more level headed gear owners here imo

UI is a deal breaker for some. It sounds like the enjoyed their time with the III and just are ready for something else

I'm sure there's a non-zero number of UI improvements in the Fractal world you can attribute to @laxu's tenacity in this regard.

I can only claim the double-click shortcuts. My idea was hold functions, but the double-clicks work pretty well too. Double click Edit to go to previous block reduced my dislike for the onboard UI by quite a lot. I hated the "Edit -> adjust -> Exit -> Move cursor to previous block -> Edit -> adjust -> Edit -> adjust -> Exit -> Move..." cycle, it had just so much unnecessary back and forth.

The best "quality of life" features for this gen have been, in no particular order:
  • Double click shortcuts
  • Dyna-Cabs
  • Gapless switching
  • Kill dry

My Axe-Fx 3 + FC-12 is shipped to its next, hopefully happy owner.
Well that certainly sucks! I guess we'll have to find someone else to decide on how many levels Fractal is failing.

Blew off work the past hour to update fm9 to 7.0 beta

The first thing I noticed was a significant improvement in clarity and definition with bass! I’m using a preset with the 6G12 Concert and a Jazz V bass for an upcoming gig and it was certainly a noticeable difference. It’s never sounded so good on my bass!

Second thing I noticed is that the Morning Glory model finally sounds the way it should!

I did notice that the Dynamic Mics seemed to have less differences between them the other day when I was trying to re-dial in my Jose Marshall, but chalked it up to never really using Dyn 2 that much and not being familiar enough with it. There’s a difference, it’s just not huge. Pretty much every preset using Dyna cabs is either a single Ribbon or a Dyn 1/Ribbon combo for me.

Ive seen a few reports of this on the FAS forum

I still don’t really get the complaints about Fractal UI. I’ve never had any problem easily doing anything I need to do with it :idk

I don’t even use the editor, I just edit on the device

Have you used anything else? The Fractal UI isn’t unusable, but other platforms are much easier/faster.

Fortunately, the tones and power are worth it IMO, and they have the best computer editor I’ve ever used. I hate computer editors - except for Axe-edit. That thing is really well done and actually fun and easy to use.
