Fractal Talk

I see it as a "one and done" thing where I don't need to think about it again because they are now saved.
Yeah, but for those that have tweaked other advanced parameters that they don't want reset...

...but this whole sidebar was started by Achilles who doesn't own a Fractal product and is just bored, so not really worth discussing.

I'd say it's already a "might as well reset the rest and start over" situation. But then again I'm the type who barely ever feels a need to touch the advanced params anyway.

I guess I'm just easy to please when most of the time I am happy if I get the amp and cab block basic settings right.

I was only bummed that my ‘Jose 6CA7’ preset got reset, which I dialed in using a highly specialized technique called “Turn the knob to see what happens” and I couldn’t dial it back in during the 45 seconds I attempted it.

The rest of my presets get tweaked harder when I start a new song than what I’ve “had” to do after the update.

Expect to still re-dial your presets so it's best to leave the update until you have time to do it.
That’s what I’ll be doing.

I usually record dry tracks of my important presets so that I can at least get close after updating firmware. Some usually change for the better. Some require more work.

I am hoping the V7 firmware flies through the beta testing. I don't like to install them until they are full releases and I am interested in the Cygnus X-3 update.

The easiest thing to do is just go to Manage Presets in Axe-Edit, select all your presets and hit "Reset amp blocks" in the right click menu. This will reset all the advanced parameters but keep the basic EQ stuff. Expect to still re-dial your presets so it's best to leave the update until you have time to do it.
I don't think you have to even do that. When you load an (older firmware) preset in the new firmware, the save button will be lit up. Just hit save, and it's now saved for the new firmware.

It means Cliff Chase is in full control of those parameters when you first update

Cygnus X-3
Book I: The Firmware

On my ship, the FM9T
Wheeling through the preset seas
Headed for the heart of Cygnus
Headlong into mystery

The Firmware is my siren song
My mind cannot resist it long
Nearer to my aural goal
Until the black hole
Gains control

Spinning, whirling
Riffs descending
Like a spiral sea, unending

High gain fury drowns my heart
Every nerve is torn apart...

The parameters will be updated upon recall.

I would expect many of presets to change audibly. The only maintenance I could see is a little tweaking if you aren’t happy with the sound of the update.

" ..... so .. will users will have to do a full factory reset ? Clear and reload each individual block ? Do a Soft reset ? Do a full hard-reboot reset and then manually enter all the new values ? Is there a link to the new values ? I can hear some of the new values aren't right ? It shouldn't be this hard ? It is so confusing ? Why cant Fractal just upgrade the FW and leave everything alone ? All my pre-sets are borked now ? Im sure this means my FM unit is now going to be updated by a new model ? If my presets need changing that is going to take me a lot of time ... why doesnt Fractal reimburse me for my time lost in doing all these updates ..... ?

;)

Sorry ...... I just could not f%cking resist :)

I shall go and take my meds now !

Ben

As For presets, don't use them, only use my own made ones
So I took a snapshot of all my current parameters in my current 1959 Treble
So I is ready

They are in a damned if they do and damned if they don't imo.
Which is why I’ve been preaching to make access to all those deep parameters user enabled/disabled.

Yes, they are on separate tabs in the editor, albeit you still have to scroll pass all of them from the front panel. But I’m confident that if access to them could be turned on/off, in say, the setup menu, there’d be a lot less bitching and complaining about the UI. Want to use them? Enable access to them. TMI? Turn access to them off. It would make for a cleaner and less-cluttered UI IMO.

Option paralysis is real. The simple fact of all those parameters actually being there can give people anxiety. One of the reasons I like the Helix platform. It’s only the authentic controls for a few extras thrown in occasionally like Bias and Sag. But there are many times I wish I could tweak things like on my FM3.

Now that I have a second FM3 and don’t have to experiment on my gigging unit, I foresee my HX Stomp collecting dust.
