Fractal Talk

Just put the Axe3 on beta 3 side by side with my FM9 on 6.0. Switching back and forth between identical patches on the two units, I take it all back. The new is better. :ROFLMAO:
I guess we can add you to the mind-numbing number of "wow this sounds so much better/different" commenters!

Loved this one :) ...... this was posted yesterday in the new pre-RC thread over there:-

" ..... Reporting back after 25 cygnus X-3 update ..... this thing is so Organically Glorious !, impressive how organically sounding it is now, and how does CC manages to make this thing sound even more organically now. The competition modellers will be for sure eating dust after this. Impressive man, really something else!!!!, Im staying at each one preset and enjoying playing over it and how it sounds now man!, no need to tweak anything, pure joy ..... "

Gold Jerry .... Gold !!!!!

Real Plexis and JCM800s are just pretty impractical amps without involving attenuators so if you want something like that, just save yourself grief and get a modern master volume take on them.

The problem was that to get into the sweet spot it was at earsplitting volumes.

While I know the answer, if I did attenuate or use with a load box, would it still be worth it? It's an amp I've always wanted but was not about to drop $3000.

I even think they may be overpriced even with the price drop but definitely more obtainable

You'll spend a lot of money on a proper reactive attenuator or a Fryette Power Station and it won't sound that different.

Try this in your Fractal. Pick your favorite Plexi model, set it to your liking, and see if you can get one of the Friedman BE models to sound pretty close by ear without cranking the BE to powertube distortion. IMO you can get pretty similar tones even though the BE is built for pure preamp gain and the NMV Marshall is typically used with powertube distortion.

We can keep it our secret to szum that you told me to use a Friedman for a Marshall 🤣 I'll see what happens!

I bought mine in a pawn shop for $450 and sold it for $600. I regretted selling it because I miss the amp but now, after reading that, I REALLY regret it. :facepalm

Yeah I bet the used prices will come down now but long gone are the $600 or $450 days, unfortunately.

Maybe it's different in EU!

Only you can answer that but a NMV Model 1959 with a Power Station PS-100 would be a hell of a rig. I'd love to have one but I already have two full stacks so getting a third wouldn't make sense.

I don't know what else you have but I've got a Rivera Knucklehead Reverb KR100, a Sig:X, and a Deliverance 120. I'd like to get one more 100 watt head and at this point I'm considering a CAA SE+ because I want higher gain than the JCM800 has.

My amp collection consists of a SLO 30, Mesa Mark V, EVH 5153 EL34 50w, and Mesa Badlander 50w.

I feel like the SLO (and even the Mesa Mark V) could probably get me close enough 800 tones.

But the 800 still calls to me 🤣

Nah vintage Plexis are expensive here too and JCM800s have gone from 500 € to something like 1000+. Haven't seen many reissues of either floating around.
Good to know! It's cool to see the price drop here in US but I can't remember the last time SW had a reissue in stock.

The 800 would make a great addition to that collection, The Fryette Deliverance 120 fulfills that role for me.

It's a single channel amp but has two gain stages and a master volume. As much as I loved the JCM800 I'd rather have a D120. The D120 can do the JCM 800 tones but the JCM800 doesn't have the higher gain options the D120 has. The More/Less switch really allows it to cover a ton of bases with Less being JCM800 territory and More being modern high gain.

I sent mine back to the factory to have two mods done, adding an effects loop and making the Less/More function footswitchable. With the mods it's absolutely incredible. Less/More on a footswitch is a game changer. The newer version has the mods included.

Channel 2 Crunch mode, with EL34s, can get you in the ballpark. But the Mark V still has the lower voiced midrange, which you can work around with an EQ in the loop.
