Fractal Talk

I'm pretty sure there's a really old video somewhere of Jack Zucker making a Kidney Bean sound glorious.
He used to be a PODophile...?
His picture should really be on every CryBaby Wah... ;) Top 3 in FAS Forum history, IMO.
I *am* happy he seems to be happy for a few days, ATM.
Just don't release a new gen before 2040 or there will be crying! ;)

I did, but it's not ideal for those who enjoy scrutinizing as I didn't use a DI.

And I'm gonna make it lesser ideal, the riff in this repeats several times and I'm not gonna say which FW it starts with or when it changes. Only hint: There are 3 separate clips in the wav file, stitched together with crossfades like all of Breaking Benjamin's riffs.

For the love of God man ...... how on earth is anyone supposed to make a decision without any null test and ESR results data ! ;)

Ben

Fuck is going on in here?
Well Timbuck3 said he was going to buy an FM9
He even said he was on the waitlist
Then a mod changed his title because he was in the can too long

55 people pondered how to reset their unit after firmware updates as losing a cathode follower value will result in anxiety, ridicule and general feeling of confusion

Anything else

Oh yes you cannot play JAZZ or at least authentic jazz on a AXE FX , and pops can’t be avoided as small jazz clubs won’t pay for a sound guy
And you can’t mute your channel on the board

That’s a quick synopsis

Anything else
You forgot the part where I GOT PISSED

Shit someone page the jazz guy from a few months back

I watched that clip and without seeing any text immediately thought "That's Jack Zucker!"

The Axe-Fx doesn't do REAL JAZZ tones, guys.
I've got to disagree. Edit: Oops! I just saw that the clip was made on a FM9. Clearly your post was tongue in cheek.

I dialed in an absolutely killer Jazz tone on my FM3. Better than anything I ever got out of a tube amp including my '65 Super Reverb.

When I decided to sell it I copied it on my FM9. Maybe due to the firmware version difference or whatever it didn't sound exactly the same but still sounds excellent.

As a result I'm seriously concerned about doing a firmware update on the FM9. I'd really like to have gapless switching but under no circumstances want to lose this magical Jazz preset I stumbled into.

Anyway, the Axe FX can do real Jazz tones. It absolutely nails the Wes Montgomery holy grail tone I was looking for.

We're dealing with some serious shit.

Sorry. That was a sarcastic remark and a reference to this classic thread. Of course you can make excellent jazz tones on Fractal gear.

Not sure it was ever really about the tone (alone). Some 10+ years ago another jazz guy (too) was always complaining. IIRC, it was about headroom, and maybe EVM12 IRs, so he kept using a physical cab.

Me, I really enjoyed the Mr. Benson preset, and even the Smokey Jazz for some minutes.

The FM3 for REAL jazz OP is making good points, IMO, and seems helped by more experienced guys. I've greatly enjoyed a Polytone for an hour or two in my wannabe jazzer days. Neither loved or hated my friend's JC-120.

I picked up on the sarcasm once I saw Zucker was using a FM9 in the clip. Of course having the tone that's in his fingers is always a help. Thanks for posting that link. I bookmarked it and may try some of the presets mentioned.

I found the Polytone "okay" at practice volumes but couldn't see gigging with one in a medium/large venue without sound reinforcement.

I agree with the OP in that thread that the Jazz Chorus 120 is unsuitable for traditional Jazz tones. I've personally never liked it.

But I disagree with him about Fender amps. As a gross generalization what he said about Fender amps is true but it's not true of the George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe.

The substitution of a 12AT7 for the stock 12AX7 addresses the distortion issue and gives the Benson model much more clean headroom than a stock HRD. Swap in a speaker that's better for Jazz and you have an amp that will deliver Wes Montgomery tones at volume with the mids and sweet high end that the OP mentioned as well as a solid and tight bottom end.

I did find my vintage Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb and even Super Reverb to be true of his concerns about distortion and a loose bottom end at volume which is why I switched over to the Benson HRD but it isn't true that Fender doesn't make an amp that's suitable for Jazz. With it's pine cab and the right Neo speaker the Benson HRD is an easy to transport option for playing any small or medium sized venue. I'm truly happy with mine, both it's transport ability and tone.
