Fractal Talk

Wow, I think at some point soon our member-to-Fractal-owner ratio is going to be equal or higher than the FAS forum. :rofl
I still think it's partly a whiplash effect from the TMP. People were waiting for some new-gen supermodeler, even though the existing stuff was still great. The TMP raised everyone's expectations and then deflated almost as fast, leaving people with new gear blueballs. So I bought an FM9 and JT bought the full Axe III :rofl

What’s sad is that I remember back around 2008 or so, TOP was effectively the Fractal Forum on its own. Scott Peterson was even a very early Fractal owner, and he used to rave about it. Now it takes some effort to find a Fractal thread over there, it seems there was a mass exodus to greener pastures by the Fractal owners.

I considered branching out as I was looking for a floor device that was easier to carry. I know the FM9 is a big guy but I might snag a helix backpack as I heard it's a great bag and can store cables and such.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying everything about the III so why mess with it, right?

It was made aware we were no longer welcome. :rofl

What’s funny is that I started posting there during the pandemic, probably the Summer of 2020, it was very much Helix-dominant at the time, but I kept seeing people saying things like “Well this has always been the unofficial Fractal forum” and it never made sense to me until I learned more about it’s history.

And really, I’m only half-joking about it being made aware we were no longer welcome and I think there’s both some merit and some stereotypical TOP behavior in that. There have been plenty of times I’ve shaken my head at a Fractal owner shitting on something over there because it didn’t have the features a Fractal unit did, I mean, this thread wasn’t always called “Fractal Talk”, it was “Fractal Users” because of those types. So from that perspective, I can totally understand people being sick of seeing stuff like that.

But that bled into people trying to have a discussion about specs, without the -/+ or snark and it would be construed as “Well Fractal does it better so this is stupid” when someone is just trying to find out how a unit functions, just like is going on with the TMP now. That pretty much became the standard by the time I was an active poster there, if someone mentions Fractal in a comparative way, someone else is going to perceive it as “You just said my thing isn’t as good as your Fractal”

And uh….while you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to program a Fractal unit, you also can’t be a complete fucking moron and if you are a complete fucking moron, trying to operate a Fractal unit might be like looking directly in a Complete Fucking Moron Mirror™. These wonderchild’s make up the Fractal Camp Survivors.

Does anyone use the Helix Backpack for the FM9? I wanted to snag the PT Metro 24 deluxe bad but the good one seems to be discontinued

Banning FractalAudio from TOP was the turning point. That was a really shitty move.

The first complex modeler is always the hardest and the next one is easier because you know the base concepts.

It's a lot of work for anyone to go from "turn amp loud, amp makes good noise" to "ok, you need to set this cab sim like you are micing a cab in a studio, then you might want to make sure your input and output levels are right and then make sure you use appropriate output devices" when all they wanted was "turn amp loud, amp makes good noise - digital edition!"

I've seen some people who are deliberately choosing to NOT read manuals and then complaining when they don't get results they want. That's "why does it keep hurting everytime I shoot myself in the foot?" level stupid.
