Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

I hope it’s Nickelback

Seriously though will be interesting people have been asking for DeF Leppard presets forever and there was talk they might share

Wonder who the lineup will be
Petrucci himself , Metallica ??

Doesn't Petrucci just use effects only?

Thanks! That’s encouraging. And that’s a good reminder, that I can just revert if needed…
Keep us posted about what you think. I also have AB's Live Gold and was otherwise going to hold off on updating until he tweaked the presets.

Has anybody that uses AustinBuddy’s Live Gold presets upgraded to FM9 v4 Beta? I have many of his presets that I start with, and just add a looper or wah or something easy and I’m done. Sounds great for my setup. I’d love to check out Cygnus X-2, but don’t know if it will mess things up, requiring more re-do/tweaking than i want to mess with.

I emailed Buddy and he said “hold off, I’ll have reworked all the presets for V4 in 2023.”. But I’d love to check it out now if it’s not going to really mess anything up. Not in a band at the moment, so no worries there…

My FM9 is still on the first beta, I haven’t done the 2nd one yet but my III is currently updated to the newest FW and I just tracked a bunch of stuff with Live Gold this weekend, no issues! I’m sure if I sat there and made a bunch of comparisons I’d be able to point them out, but I think most of the tweaks Austin does after updates are smaller things that only he, being as familiar with the presets as he is, notices and it’d take some effort for anyone else to notice them.

I just recorded the final tracks to a song this weekend using nothing but Live Gold, specifically the Superlead preset that I used to write the song with about 6 months ago, I didn’t even think about the updates when I started tracking again, didn’t adjust anything, just loaded the preset and pressed Record. I had already deleted the original tracks by the time I was done and thought about the update, but there was nothing ‘wrong’ with the new tracks, they still did exactly what I needed it to! I still use his bass presets that haven’t been updated ….ever? I just tweak them to fit the song like I do the rest of his presets and press the R button.

Do we get to hear said song? :beer

Are you accepting suggestions?

:rofl

I had a non-musician friend ask me to send it to them in hopes they could help me out. She wasn’t understanding the difference between the song itself and the mix and kept going back to me writing the song poorly, no matter how many times I tried explaining what I f*cked up, it wasn’t getting through.

The way it stands right now it sounds like a copy of a copy of a copy of a 2001-era mp3, I think it’s entirely the fault of the kit I used for this song, Toontrack generally dials in way too much low end in their kits, sounds great for isolated drums but in this case, the kick drum and toms just dominate everything and it sounds like they’re causing the mix to fold in on itself.

I’ll have to look, I want to say it was the Nashville-something, which I have a tweaked version saved already but figured I’d start fresh with this song. I know it’s from the stock SD3 release and wasn’t an SDX.
