Fractal Audio Firmware Update Thread

I thought that was Larry David at first. :rofl

:rofl

I had a non-musician friend ask me to send it to them in hopes they could help me out. She wasn’t understanding the difference between the song itself and the mix and kept going back to me writing the song poorly, no matter how many times I tried explaining what I f*cked up, it wasn’t getting through.

The way it stands right now it sounds like a copy of a copy of a copy of a 2001-era mp3, I think it’s entirely the fault of the kit I used for this song, Toontrack generally dials in way too much low end in their kits, sounds great for isolated drums but in this case, the kick drum and toms just dominate everything and it sounds like they’re causing the mix to fold in on itself.

Man, it's amazing how much a kick/snare can change how an entire mix sounds. I swear
I can change to a different kick and suddenly it sounds like the guitars are darker (or
brighter, depending on the kick chosen). I think this is why getting the drums dialed is
so vital. For me, it is always the brick and mortar foundation of whatever else goes on top
of it/along with it.

It blows my mind sometimes. Don't touch the EQ on the guitars and change a kick sample
and suddenly the guitars sound different. :idk

So, so much this.

Maybe I’ll post a super secret link to it so people can hear what it’s like when everything in a mix is fighting for space. This one is definitely a case of bigger isn’t always better. I wanted a huge drum sound in it the song but I can certainly see where going for that gave everything else the sh*t end of the stick.

Still waiting on the Aaron Marshall preset pack. Maybe Tosin as well now that he’s back with FAS? Wouldn’t be surprised if there was a John Cordy as a special guest. No Chappers tho

I think it pretty obvious Cooper Carter will be at bat soon
I suspect there will be a few big
Names likely closer to Christmas

Gotcha gotcha. Rack mount probably has it's pros as well.
Yep. Also, he’s pretty hardcore on MIDI so wouldn’t be surprised if the added flexibility on the Fractal side played a role. The synth stuff was nice as well on the video.
