Anybody else getting sick of modellers?

I'm increasingly of the opinion that if you're going to lecture other people about any of this stuff, then you need to be able to back it up with something other than being this guy:

I was like that very strongly, especially when people came around with some pretty much "these are the facts" opinions. These days, I'm trying to distinguish, at least a little bit (harrharrharr, as if I would...). In this case, I don't think Jay's last posting was good enough to trigger any "we need sound examples!", at least not for me.

I'm just tired of hearing it Sascha. Been reading these fart sniff posts from Jay and a whole bunch of other people for over a decade now. We get it. You like your rigs. Fair fucking play. Piss off and enjoy it and let us whinge about our experiences with modelling rigs!

Come to think of it, I don't think you've ever posted any clips of you playing or your tones ????
I have, many times in the past. That you never listened to any of them is not my problem, and I make it a practice not to post clips in response to trolling attacks like this. FWIW, I have heard your playing and your tones, but I will decline to offer my observations here.

Not only am I getting sick of modellers, I'm getting sick of modeller defenders who cry at the slightest hint of a different experience.

Sure, "put up or shut up". But he's not arguing whether tone is good or bad, he's talking about the science behind it. Saying his input isn't valid without showing a video or playing an audio clip is tough. If he shares a Soundcloud link, and he sounds awful, does that invalidate what he says about how IR's work, for example?

I mean, this is a discussion forum, right? After awhile the same topics are sure to come up. I think @spawnofthesith is "wrong" with his viewpoints on modelers, since I've seen plenty of shows that were amazing with them. But, I don't really lose sleep either. Not a big deal.

I've genuinely never seen you post anything like that.

I don't care what you think about my tones, as I'm sure you don't care about what I think about yours.

But that isn't what this side-quest is about. This side-quest is Jay yet again getting holier-than-thou, and it stinks so I'm saying my piece.

Where I'm at right now:

Love not having a lot of cables
Love having a big variety of effects
Love being able to switch everything in many different ways
Love big stereo effects

Hate trying to figure out what to tweak in the amps/cabs to get a more lifelike sound
Hate the overwhelming choices in IR's and cabs
Hate the rabbit hole and crap shoot of profiles/captures
Hate feeling like there's a moving target anytime I try to get an amp/cab sound

Basically I love the effects side of modeling, but I'm struggling with the amps and cabs.

I love the idea of something like a Soldano X88 IR with the Axe FX 3 handling effects...all analog/tube for the preamp, power amp and cab modeling if needed, and top notch effects. Could run that into a stereo power amp and dual cabs for the ultimate sound, or run direct.

But that's super overkill for a basement player like me. I've got the Friedman IR-X and Axe 3 and could just rock with that combo into monitors. I like it into a solid state amp and cab too, but again I'd love a stereo power amp and 2x12 or dual 1x12 setup.

Also really interested in the UAD Ox Stomp as a more hands on cab modeler. I like the tones I hear out of those and I've heard some people who found it to fix a lot of the rabbit hole and tweaking associated with IR's.

Maybe we could see something like a Friedman IR Deluxe with 3+ channels in a rack format, and put that with the Axe 3 and call it a day lol.

Perhaps the VP4 would be more up your alley, paired with an analog amp?

Yeah I'm tussling with this too. Axe3 and Mark V sounds absolutely amazing. Probably the best tone and effects I've had for years. But the cabling of it, setting it up, gets a bit old. I'm thinking maybe if I put a little patch bay into my rack, it might get easier. Anyone done this actually??

Love having a big variety of effects
Yeah same! You know with the Fractal FC12 controller, pressing the two most right switches at the same time lets you choose layouts. This is probably my absolute favourite feature of the Fractal footswitching system! It is amazing, because you really can have a kitchen sink preset and easily access it all just using your feet. I love it!

Love being able to switch everything in many different ways
Yep!! Sames!
Love big stereo effects
This is where I love stereo for recording, but not sure I can really be arsed with it for live performance. Most FOH guys are mixing in mono anyway, coz they're fucking dinosaurs.

Hate trying to figure out what to tweak in the amps/cabs to get a more lifelike sound
This is why I'm using valve amps in tandem. I hate having to tweak amp parameters.

Hate the overwhelming choices in IR's and cabs
I also hate this, well... from a guitar 'live' rig perspective. I love it from a studio/recording perspective.

Hate the rabbit hole and crap shoot of profiles/captures
Yep. Sooooo over this!

Hate feeling like there's a moving target anytime I try to get an amp/cab sound

I think that is a pretty good shout tbh!

Tis only overkill if you think it is I suppose. But wouldn't let the fact you're only in a basement stop you from having the kit you love!
