Anyone else getting sick of GAS?

I’m really sick of GAS also…trying new gear takes too much time, flipping it even more, and I still sound like I have for years.

This year I bought an L5 and a Dumble clone to cure it…;)
I'm much more likely to flip digital gear. Much easy to ship out 😂 amps I rarely part with unless it's a local sale which good luck

The L5 is an awesome beast and can even get into "Dumble ballpark" (whatever that means) with the right settings, at least in a way that I personally perceive to be very similar.

I have gone through Kemper, QC, Fractal, Tonemaster Pro, helix, headrush flex prime, etc... and I am sticking to my Kemper...to my ears, it has the best feel, spring reverb, a plethora of high quality profiles, liquid profiling, "amp in the room", etc. I don't need silly complex signal paths... It sounded good 5 years ago and it sounds great now... just like a good amp.

I think living in the age of instant gratification has had a very negative impact on people. I learned to play the guitar by sitting down with a record player, and shortly after that a CD player, and plugging away until I learned the song. And when I did, there was a feeling of accomplishment that excited me about learning the next one. Now, all you have to do is go online and there are hundreds of tutorials out there that show you exactly what to do. While there is still some sense of accomplishment, I honestly believe that the harder something is to achieve, the greater the sense of reward once you finally do achieve it.
Record player?! I had to make a radio!! 😋🤣

So far this year I have purchased a PastFX TD-Y and a Patriarch, a Kingsley Page TS, an Origin Effects Cali76 Stacked, and I have a Fender Custom Shop Strat coming tomorrow.... I'll just see myself out. :bag

I keep acquiring but trying to not repeat the same mistakes like buying cheap stuff I won't like or things I've tried before many times. I also need to stop trying to collect things like pedals because I don't use them nearly as much as I do my Axe FX 3.

Instead I'm trying to work towards the "if I won the lottery" rig in my brain. That is some kind of tube amp plus Fractal for effects. Not sure if that's something like a Friedman BE-50 Deluxe, or a Suhr PT15-IR, or the new Soldano rack system. But something like that.

So this year I got a Friedman JJ Junior and will spend some time with that and the Fractal. Also messing around with the IR-X into Fractal as well. Maybe I do something neat like running both an IR-X and an IR-D into the Fractal and can control them both via the Fractal loops and MIDI? Or just end up with the JJ Junior and Fractal for effects? Or some kind of hybrid with some analog pedals into the Friedman into the Fractal?

That's exactly where I am.

For Jazz gigs it's going to be the Rivera Suprema Jazz Recording with the FM9 for effects. For everything else (Funk, R&B, Hardcore, or jamming) it's the Fryette Sig:X or Deliverance 120 with the FM9.

For home use the FM9 with the V3 FR-10 is great and depending on how it acquits itself may be fine for gigs in modest sized venues as well if I just want a grab and go rig. Due to the weight savings I'm really hoping that it's a giggable rig.

But for the larger venues I'll be using a tube amp and Fractal for effects only. So far that's been the sweet spot for me.

The gas has struck me several times this year when it promised it would take a year off.

I guess those plans went to SH*t!

The broken Synergy return led me to something that I love so all good.

Oh well.....I'm not complaining!

I bought a very nice Engl AE50 recently and love it.

I love it so much that I am GASing for a Powerball 100 II and a 4x12!

Yeah, I tried too... 🤷‍♂️

2024 ended with a wonderful custom pedal by JDM. I reached out with my idea, and he made it a reality. I felt honored and it helped solve a bunch of board-related "problems" that kept hovering in my thoughts.

By January, I felt like "I'm all set, no GAS for a while, maybe I can make it through the entire year".

A week later, the universe replied with a used Dumbloid ODS for 200€ that no one seemed to pick up on. Of course I had to drop the seller a message. My brain: "Maybe you can try it out and flip it with a tiny profit, and it'll still be a good deal for the next owner".

Needless to say, I went and got it, friendly lad I bought it from even gave me the chance to test it with a nice LP and a Fender Twin Reverb. It has a permanent spot on my board now, and won't leave anytime soon, that's for sure.

So, alright, "that was a one-off chance" and "not really GAS, right? I had to." 😂

Next up: the "cheap Superfuzz, but not Behringer" rabbit hole. Fuck... Not 100% happy with the Ron Swanson Superfuzz I got a while ago, I kept researching alternatives. A month later I order a used Dano Eisenhower for 80€. "Good price, can't pass, huh?"

At the same time I reached out to a local hobbyist builder who's sometimes selling DIY stuff online. He'll build an EQD Fuzzmaster General clone that I'll receive soon. Nice. Dunno what he'll charge, but "hey, that's also a great deal already, since when you're into Superfuzz, you can't just ignore the Fuzzmaster, right? Right????"
😂😂😂😂😂😂

Meanwhile, my Thomann cart shows a pair of 100W 12" speakers (I "need" them to be able to crank my 200W LAB L11 head, and "it'll totally be an improvement over my other cabs") a 2x12" enclosure, and a pair of single coil sized humbuckers (for my beat-up Fender Mustang, because I never get along with true single coils).

I'm sooooo screwed... At least it's always a good deal, and I'm not forking out 5k for a Gibson or something. 😂

I agree, tone and feel over options . The newest software and editor are good too.
