Anybody else getting sick of modellers?

I don’t like studio monitors either and I feel like they have to be loud as hell to sound “tolerable”. The FM-10s I have are the best I’ve tried for “"FRFR"” and I can generally get a sound I like out of them - still not as good as guitar cab in the room. The NDSP plugins are best for me in that setup but I believe it is the cabs (not the modeling) and plan to shoot some IRs of them and load into my FM9.

My favorite listening experience is running the FM9 into a Fryette PS-2a with the speaker curve set to resistive load in the Fractal amp. I’ve tested that against a few amps and it is really comparable.

Played last night with the Dual Rectifier again, sounded absolutely massive. Headline band used Marshall’s, sounded beefy too.

Interestingly the first band turned up with a couple of Kemper stages, nice easy setup for them.

And you know what? Sounded absolutely shite. More evidence for the prosecution I reckon.
More evidence that sound guys that know how to handle modelers are crucial.

Love Modellers. Love Tube Amps. :love The War only exists inside our heads.

Maybe it is a remnant infected into us from Monotheism, and the notion that there
must only be One victor in the end. Meanwhile we live in a world imbued with multiplicity
and seeming polarities simultaneously co-existing. :bonk

The gear is not dumb. We are.

Although JT was having a very similar issue (even with fractal) until he switched to a real cab. Are you using ""FRFR"" or a cab?

I've converted to dual 1 x 12 FRFRs at our rehearsal space and the FM3 slays into them,
with a real drummer who hits hard, and another guitarist on the opposite side also running
at high octane.
We blasted that room last night and we both agreed it sounded f'ing righteous! :headbang

I need to try harder to get all these bad and buried sounds others seem to struggle with. :idk

What you using for "FRFR"? I often flip-flop wondering whether I should get stereo "FRFR" or a power amp and cab.

Wasn't blown away by Kemper Kab, stereo would've probably helped but really never got closer than 80% of TIMH with Kemper all around.

I think my monitors and sub are reasonably good but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve come to embrace both. Modelers and “real” amps both have their place. And there’s no rules either. Run what you want.

I had sold all my gear due to job loss a few months back but started getting some small pieces again. Got a Nano Cortex last week. Then today I picked up a Marshall DSL40CR combo for a great deal. Both are fun and scratch different itches. Might even look at a VP4 to pair with the Marshall. But also some old school pedals.

Never been a better time to be a guitar gear nerd.

I’ve tracked a lot of my bands releases partially with a fractal, and I have the stomp of course and have had the opportunity to dabble with my bass players QC, none of it comes close to comparing to a real amp, -especially- “in the room” and even compared to a lazily miced cab

But it’s nice we as guitar players have so many options today :beer

What "FRFR"’s are thou art using?

I'm like 180 out of phase with all y'all. I was all "real cabs are real; fake cabs are fake" for soooooo long. Lately... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Spent 45 minutes playing through a Headstrong Princeton Reverb copy two weeks ago and came home to plug into my Axe III running into my QSCk8.2 with Princeton Reverb model and was just as happy.

But you cannot compare an amp in the room vs the sound of a miced amp through an "FRFR"
Now if you take something like the Axe FX turn off the power amp run it through a Mesa 2:90 and a Mesa 412 I suspect you would find the results much more favourable
