I've never been the biggest fan. Suddenly I am listening to their
catalog and am like, "Holy Fuck! They destroy all others, and take
no fucking prisoners!!"

Their range and influences are immense. I can hardly believe how
great they were/are.

I know there is no competition in music, but holy hell were these
guys beyond brilliant or what? :chef

I'm a big prog fan but not a huge yes fan.

Don't get me wrong I like them a lot but I like other bands/records more.

For my tastes you can't beat the best of king crimson.

Speaking of yes and their legacy I might suggest you all to listen to this band/record.

The songs, "close to the edge", "The revealing science of God*, "To be Over"** and "Awaken" all blow me away from when they first were released, to this very day.

Like the Beatles, they were out spreading love.

*"Past present movers, moments we'll process the future
But only through him we know, send flowered rainbows
A piece apart chased flowers of the dark and lights
Of songs to follow and show all we feel for
And know of cast round, you seekers of the truth
Accepting that reason will relive and breath and hope
And chase and love for you and you and you"

**"Childlike soul dreamer
One journey, one to seek and see in every light
Do open true pathways away

Carrying closer
Go gently, holding doors will open every way
You wander true pathways away
After all your soul will still surrender
After all don't doubt your part
Be ready to be loved"

I saw them twice, once on the Big Generator tour, 2 rows from the stage on Chris Squire's side, at the Capitol Centre in Largo (DC), and then on the Union tour in the round, with Trevor & Steve, Bill & Alan, Tony & Rick, and Chris & Jon. Pretty fuckin' surreal! BOTH shows.

One of my close-2nd, favorite bands of all-time. :beer

When I went to hear speakers for my stereo, I brought Big Generator with my for the listening room, and cranked this:

That's amazing! I am working my way through their whole catalog and listened to the
1st 2 Albums today in their entirety. So good. I felt like I could hear a Beatles influence
in the music and harmonies, too.

You'll likely hear all sorts, since they've had many different members, and thus writers, over the years. Which for me, diversity of song contributors, is what usually draws me to a band.

Why do you feel that? Because it’s true. Yes raised the bar for prog music.

Only yes tour I was able to make it to was the 90125 tour! Certainly far from my favorite Yes album, but I thought it was a pretty descent piece at that point in their career!! I was able to see KC 3 times and met Adrian Belew at one of them ;~)) He refused to get me Fripp's autograph on my Fillmore poster and he would not sign it either ;~(( And that was after I vouched for him to the bartender who would not give him a beer on the house as he did not know who he was. I told the bartender that I would buy his beer and then rattled off some of the names he had played with. When I was done with my list, then Belew said "I've also put out X solo albums" (don't remember what number he said) to which I enthusiastically vouched for the greatness of "Desire Caught by the Tail". Bartender ultimately gave him a beer on the house (House of Blues in LA, circa 2000 or so).

I should do this, too. I only know the radio hits, which I always liked (including the 80s stuff). Have not heard an entire album.

While I'm not a huge prog rock guy, I do love Rush, and I know Yes were a big influence.

Thanks for the idea!
