I Listened To Every Dream Theater Album In Chronological Order

Maybe this song originally had impact when it was released? The LAST thing I want to hear is LaBrie singing it (or anything else, really). I really don't like this band :rofl

I can't stand the guy either! For that reason, Liquid Tension Experiment is preferable to me.

Any recommendations for the next artist/band?

Try non-metal Progressive Rock. e.g.: Yes, Genesis (Gabriel era), Camel, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Rush, ELP, The Flower Kings, Marillion, Arena, Pendragon...

Haha! :lol

I started with Avenged Sevenfold a few months ago and couldn't make it
through the catalog---which kind of surprised me. The ambition of their
early years was fine. It's the stuffing of 10 tons of sonic shit into every song
in their latter period that just triggered me into horrible fits of auditory
overstimulation. :brick

He was able to handle DT, because they only do that in 60% of their songs. :rofl

There's a lot of production madness and mayhem with A7X that just gets in the
way of any songs under the surface. That and some of the Schlokey Danny Elfman
tendencies that belong in a movie score fuckers.
:horse:horse

I love great production. It's just the modern tendency of not being able to distinguish
individual instruments, and leaving no frequency unused and open at any time, is all just
overkill. For me and my old ass ears.

It's funny since I recently spent the last 3 weeks doing just that; all their studio albums including Feedback. Live stuff not included.

It was great fun, obviously some better than others. Though some albums like Caress of Steel and Test for Echo started to feel like chores.
Honestly, as much as I'm the biggest Rush-nerd there is, and as a pre-teen, I listened to and knew every song/album, front to back, I recently listened to a bunch of old Rush on a long drive to a gig, and I purposely skipped over Caress of Steel, because I know better :rofl

Ironically, and apropos to this thread, I also went back and listened to a bunch of Dream Theater on another recent drive. I hadn't listened to those guys in quite a while, as I was kind of "done with them". I pretty much liked everything from the beginning, up to Octavarium or Systematic Chaos, and I just lost it for them, after that. It was refreshing.

Wasn't this used as a form of torture in the US/Iran war?

It doesn't look like DT made the cut.

10 songs that the CIA used to torture prisoners:

  • ‘Baby One More Time’ – Britney Spears
  • ‘Bodies’ – Drowning Pool
  • ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ – Bruce Springsteen
  • ‘Die MF Die’ – Dope
  • ‘Enter Sandman’ – Metallica
  • ‘Kim’ – Eminem
  • ‘Raspberry Beret’ – Prince
  • ‘Rawhide’ – the Blues Brothers
  • ‘Theme Song’ – Barney & Friends
  • ‘White America’ – Eminem
