(UPDATED for new FW!) EVH amp vs Axe Fx, QC and TMP...

FEEL is real...its hard to put into words and is very subjective person to person.
Everybody keeps saying this, but it's not all that complicated and it's not hard to put into words at all. Feel = dynamics. (Expanding on this, time-variant dynamics.) Whereas timbre is more closely related with equalization, or more accurately, harmonic content.

I do agree that feel is very subjective, which is why we all make different decisions regarding dynamics (gain stage settings, pre and post compression, etc. etc. etc.) Likewise for timbre.

Hmmm I assume EZ drummer is pretty easy to work with, otherwise it would have been a bad name for the product. Lol. Slate is very easy too. There's a free version that you can try.
What do you recommend for a player who's too lazy to install the free version? (Asking for a friend.) :rofl

Listened. Was really glad it didn't prove my Axe FX obsolete, but also, I have gas for a 6L6 5150III 50watter today, and this video didn't help!

I absolutely recommend getting one. I've had a lot of high gainers over the years, and honestly, I think this might be the best ever. Factor in the low cost and small foot print and it's a no brainer. My amp gas is effectively killed, and I don't ever even think about the JVM I traded for the head+ cab

If you see my post count, I'm fairly new around here. I gather from context that he has said that he is going to buy product X or Y on numerous occasions but never follows through, but I don't understand why that matters to anyone.
In all fairness, he mostly says that he's not going to buy product X or Y on numerous occasions. And then, as promised, he doesn't.

But when we say "numerous"... hoo boy.

Any chance we an break out discussions of feel into a separate thread?

When it's ultimately time for the 🔥 INFERNO 🔥 , it will make things a lot easier too :D

That’s reasonable. But remember, if you’re always waiting for the best thing to appear, you’ll never have anything new (which is fine too). Things are always improving so you just have to throw your hat into the ring at some point if you want to try new stuff.
NOt really "the next best thing" but the thing that appeals to me in the moment. "BEST" is subjective to each players needs and ideas of tone. New doesnt always mean best to me anyhow. I drive a 2004 mr2 spyder..its OLDDDDDDDDDD...but it does the job as does my 2006 mdx with 250k miles. My gf bought a new tesla s and loves it and yea its fun to drive and cool but not my thing. Do i want one? NOOOOO...

Yeah, but the difference between her Tesla and an FM9 is that you actually want an FM9 ;)

That's understandable, but I think you need to approach it from a different perspective than waiting for the absolute perfect device. Because it's never going to exist. Consider which compromises are ok for you and pick a device based on that.

As much grief as I give Fractal about their onboard UI, I still use their devices because there's so much they do right. All the sound related stuff is great, the routing is very flexibile, the footswitches highly configurable, Axe-Edit works well and so on.

As much as I liked the Helix Floor, I wanted something more compact. I considered swapping it for a used Helix Rack + Helix Control at one point because I didn't want to crouch to the floor to adjust things. Went with the Axe-Fx 3 instead.

QC had great potential and worked well for me, but it still had so many things that needed work that I sold it and was going to reconsider it if NeuralDSP could fix all the problems. Still hasn't happened, maybe after this year it will finally be close to what I wanted it to be at release.

For the record I'm a fan of the original blue Vox Valvetronix stuff. When the AD120VT was released in 2001 (2003 for AD120VTX), it was IMO the first significant improvement in modeling since the late 1990s Yamaha DG/H&K Zentera/Cybertwin era. The Valve Reactor poweramp was a novel idea in an era when preamp modeling was already pretty good but poweramp modeling was not.
Well said reply. Yea vox should have run with the ball but for some reason they just cheaped out and fizzled.

I owned one of the v1 6L6 models for quite some time, and I loved it. But I didn't like the lack of individual gain and volume controls for the green and blue channels. This was ages before they fixed it for the v2 models. I did end up selling it to a friend years ago, but I quite fancy another. Maybe in 2024!

I couldn't part with my Satriani JVM, much to the chagrin of @TheTrueZoltan!

I drive a 2004 mr2 spyder...
Cool car. I'd still be driving a 1989 MkI if I could find one in decent shape. And if fatherhood hadn't made a back seat obligatory. :D

But this is even further off-topic than "feel".

This is not aimed at you, because I believe the observation is true.

However, I believe the root-cause is due to unsettled and misplaced priorities in one’s life.

If one’s priority is the craft, you generally don’t worry a whole lot about the tools once you’re a journeyman.

I like fine tools, but I’m not a product of them. I simply need them not to get in my way.
yes i understand this. When i was more active playing in bands i was more into"tools" i guess. But as i aged maybe i thought more about having less?

yes i waffle on new tech gear.I admit it. Not really looking for the "perfect" one ..just the one that speaks to me. They are all vg of course and i do make remarks that represent the devils advocate and am used to getting flamed for it but it rolls off me like water on a duck. As i said long ago i played the vox ad120vtx and bought it immediately..it spoke to me...as did the cybertwin se combo and the spidervalve combo..The dt25 i did buy but didnt really do it for me at the time and i returned it. The lack of an editor for the topology and diff power amps in it turned me away but it sounded good with my hd500 which i retured a while ago. So when something feels right in my gut i will buy again. I think after 40 yrs playing or so i know what i am seeking and when it comes up i will buy it.
