Yayyyyyyyyy!
No argument there.Perhaps?
You seem a lot more persnickety than I am, though.
Probably why I'm most likely done with bands, and you're not. I have a low tolerance for putting in all that effort, then having it fall apart because of dumb shit. And I absolutely can't stand lack of communication.I know of no ideal/perfect scenario. Everything in life -- from my view --- is loaded with pluses
and minuses. I get a payoff, but is it worth the up front costs, or ongoing maintenance.
Not to mention I am too old to be naive and idealistic and blot out potential obstacles just because I
want something to work out.
That’s what these are for…
People want to hear those songs?Well, maybe I am playing for/auditioning for someone like you.
The other Dave is an HVAC contractor and owns his own business, and on night 2
some of his more stern and demanding, "I am the boss, and this is what we are
going to do," ways came out.
That is not what was pitched to me from the CL ad or night 1. Now the real Dave
comes out.
He's cool. Has a lot of resources. Can sing his ass off. Does not mind volume as a
singer..... but it is clear he is running the show. I am not cool with NOT having any
say on songs or direction. And I don't want to learn cheese ass songs and gig, because
that is what people "want to hear." Fuck people!!
Before we left he said, "Going forward we need to stick to the list." He said that because
we were having fun just exploring different tunes and going off on tangents. Songs not
on the list.
Played Ramble On, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Firewoman,
Separate Ways, Far Behind, Holiday, Apartment (Barenaked Ladies), Are U Gonna Go My Way,
and a few others I am not recalling right now. It was fun. A lot of fun. Pounding a list is not.
Never was. Never will be.
So yeah, "Fuck the list, too!"
Haha.Well, maybe I am playing for/auditioning for someone like you.
Hmm, that almost seems like an oxymoron. Like, after being the boss all day, band night should be more chill. Oh wait, my buddy Rob is the same way-dictatorial at work, and play. The other Dave is an HVAC contractor and owns his own business, and on night 2
some of his more stern and demanding, "I am the boss, and this is what we are

NO DOUBT!! I always seem to get into debates with band members along these lines"That is not what was pitched to me from the CL ad or night 1. Now the real Dave
comes out.

Red flag. Before we left he said, "Going forward we need to stick to the list." He said that because
we were having fun just exploring different tunes and going off on tangents. Songs not
on the list.
Love it! Well if he can sing those, maybe it would make up for a few "flakes." Heck, who am I kidding? That would go a long way towards dealing with some frustrations.Played Ramble On, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Firewoman,
Separate Ways, Far Behind, Holiday, Apartment (Barenaked Ladies), Are U Gonna Go My Way,

Dig the Zepplin but a rowdy crowd generally won't jive with those picks. The Journey song is cool but Dont Stop Believin' (unfortunately) would trounce it.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I was thinking other dude was saying "WEER PLAYING CANDULBOX OR IM OUT" kind of thing. To which I am like, "well; who are you to be the boss of something when you can't even show up for two weeks in a row for? other than dude that owns the garage?"Haha! I do. I am in this for me. Highly selfish!
I have pounded that beat of crowd-happy songs for almost 2 decades now and am burnt on it.
I used to be "Let's pick and play what works best for juiced up John and Janet." Not going to do
it anymore, especially with lugging gear and the increasing anxiety of late-night driving for
this old fart. And maybe for a couple of hundred dollars 2x a month. Yuk! No thanks. I know what that
feels like and how it all goes down. No surprises there.
For me, I need new songs (some originals, too) and new experiences (at least some of the time!) or I am not in.
If you can get everyone involved on the same page and happy; that is the biggest thing. I guess I would say biggest red flag is dude saying stick to the list. Perfectly good if you are allowed to contribute to the list and your goals align. If not, though; boo on him.Maybe I'll snap some pics of "The List," and create a poll, and then I will do whatever the Forum says I should.
But it would concern me that maybe he knows that, and would use it in a way that wouldn't feel fair...? Not sure.
Many ways to look at it.
This is a tough spot to be in. That original metal band (that turned into "Hey people will LOVE this Keel cover!" ) which also got shoehorned in with "Hey let's do this simple af metal tune to see if we gel I mean let's add Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and wonder why 1 hour and a half practice (76 minutes of which is a smoke "break" for the drummer) every other week is going absolutely nowhere 4 months later was it's own version of this.He seems more itching to gig, and sees sticking to the list as the fastest route to making that happen.
This is a different tact than a month ago when I was there when it was "just have fun" and "let's pick
some cool tunes" and "we want to work on original material, too."
Not sure what changed, because the live rock music scene here is utter shit. Acoustic duos for days!
Just not sure I want to put in the work to hone "the list" when gigging that kind of material ASAP
was not what I bargained for.
So lots of this in my head until next week.
