The "Going To An Audition" Thread

A singer that thinks he runs the band, you dont say...:rofl

If you let them think they are in control and play the game you will probably get a lot more out of it eventually. Once they realize they need you, I imagine things will change for the better. Right now they are trying to figure you out just like you are doing with them.

Good luck with it!

That's great advice, @Byrdman . :beer

Highly strategic. I like. :clint

Definitely in a zone of feeling me out, challenging me, and seeing if I flip out on them. Supposed to
go back tonight for Round 3. We'll see if it materializes or someone bails on rehearsal. I did my
work prepping, is all I know, or can do. :hmm

I'd like to think that could work, but I can't imagine any megalomaniacal singer viewing any other musician as irreplaceable. Hopefully I'm just too pessimistic, but I'm thinking, what makes this guy that way in the first place? It's not something that anyone's quality of work or of character is going to fix. It's probably some deep-seeded insecurity that comes out as control. I'll bet his actual employees have a ball at work.

Man, this motherfucker can sing his ass off. Fucking eh. I told him he sounded fucking amazing last night,
and it sounds easy. No strain. Great pitch. Holding notes and staying right on pitch. I've never thought
of playing so many Zep songs--because of the vocals.

And then Steve Perry. Motherfucka! Even did that Great Van Fleet Highway Song and the bastard killed it.
Audioslave and Cornell? Check. Candlebox? Check.

He's making it really hard not to show up, regardless of what happens.

Oh, and I don't like 4 x 12 cabs in this setting. Too woofy. I used his Mesa OS 4 x 12 (mic'd up with a 57)
last night and I felt like I got more midrange and less "phart" from my semi-open back 2 x 12. I may be
getting to the point of leaving my toothbrush, I mean, cabs and amp, there overnight. :love:love

Not asked to join yet, and not sure I want to commit to doing dive bar gigs on Saturdays for $100. :barf

That's my biggest hangup. They seem open to my input (I offered up the Journey Separate Ways song on a whim
the first time we got together), but just want me to get up to speed on their list. Bass player was super cool and
chatty with me last night. Super solid player who has good tone and nails his lines. Fun!

Having everything mic'd up at rehearsal is definitely neat, but the volume got a bit out of hand last night to
the point that everything in the room started to smear. I wear protection. Thank goodness.

Oh, and the other guitar player is still rocking the Metal Zone into the Crate Power Block and then into a Peavey
6505 4x 12. He only has one gain tone and it SO does NOT work on everything. I may take him a low to medium
gain drive, and say, "Happy Birthday, Dude!"

Wish I met him 15 or 20 years ago.... when I was not as old and lazy as I am now. :facepalm

Well, not lazy. Just not the stamina and drive I used to have for this stuff. :idk

Sounding good to me, mister Dave! I hope you keep having a blast! And, in about 30 years, when I don't suck so much at guitar - I can take over for the other guy. Would that mean I'd have to move to MI? :hmm

I even saw a Black Bear cross the road on the way to practice last night, Dave. :beer

He/she had a collar on---they do that around here in the Winter. Pull them out of
hibernation and put a collar on them and take blood and semen samples.

The other guy is a decent enough player. Just a bit out to lunch on his "tones."
I mean, "tone." :idk

Even did that Great Van Fleet Highway Song and the bastard killed it.

Can you guys do Safari Song? I saw a cover band do that one at the beach at a restaurant/Tiki Bar about a month ago. They crushed it too and everyone pretty much stopped what they were doing, eating, talking, drinking, flirting, everything, to watch.

Something about that song grabs you by your nether regions and says "pay attention to this shit now!"

Thanks. I'll check it out. :beer

Never thought I'd be playing ANY Greta, to be honest. :idk
