Fair point, but IMO it looks to be significantly cheaper than one (Kemper Player) and significantly more full featured than the other (ToneX). Hopefully easier to use as well.

I don't know. It's cool. I'm tempted to order one before they inevitably sell out, if only to kick the tires. But if when really think about it, it just makes me want another QC. :)
Yeah the QC is portable enough as is that scaling down is going to really have to be "buy it just because you want one" or you have some super-niche case where your footprint has to be as microscopic as possible. Losing that touchscreen when you are used to it would suck I'd think.

I've seen a few complaints of combined expression & MIDI input, but I don't see the issue...? If you're using MIDI, you have the means of connecting an expression pedal elsewhere.

Not necessarily, it depends on what MIDI controller you’re using, and then you have to program all your exp as MIDI instead of assigning it internally.

This seems like a really annoying choice to me

2 things:

1. Will timbuck buy one?
2. Here is a picture of Line 6 sitting back, knowing that there will NEVER be a "replacement" for the Stomp, and even with different technology, the only things these pieces amount to, are, things that are best used WITH a Stomp:

:rofl

1,000 years from now the only surviving pedals will be a tubescreamer, RC boost, and a stomp.

The Rat's still around too.......

The amount of factory captures included is sad
I've gotta catch up with this thread so I can actually skim through the Owner's Manual.

I assume you can supplement the Factory Captures with User Captures downloaded from the cloud? Isn't that half the point of the app?

God I would love to Eric’s smile when he thinks just that, what you wrote. Because I bet he is. Slam dunk 2018 still going

Definitely but I still would have liked to see more loaded on. It's like less than 20 I think. It's not like they don't have them

Stop using crappy MIDI controllers, they’re annoying :p

Not exactly. For instance, I have an old MIDI foot controller, its single functionality being to throw out program changes. Hence no way to do modifications within a patch or so. In general, it's easier to deal with program changes, too. And what if you were using another MFX unit along with the NC? You'd have to convert the incoming EXP values of that device to MIDI and then send them further to the NC. A lot more complicated than just connecting a simple external switch/pedal. And in case it's a pedal, there's yet another issue, namely the lack of "active sensing" when using MIDI, something pretty much built into analog pedals (very useful when running a volume pedal, as the controlled device always knows about the pedal status).

What are they gonna release, something with 4.5 foot switches and 10 blocks? Never say never, but I feel like we've milked the Helix platform all we can from a hardware perspective.
Next move would be a proper Helix Floor minus the Expression pedal, and maybe two fewer footswitches, for the Goldilocks form factor. IMO HX is also due for an audio engine overhaul, but I know I'm not in the majority here.

Looks cool. As usual unabashedly lifting from competing products then adding a bit of slickness to make up for guaranteed glacial future development and historical ick factor. To me it has way more appeal than the one with the big ugly (graphics-wise) touchscreen. Hey man another product anyone intent on making music could use to get it done. Not convinced it’s necessary, but I can see them flying off the backs of delivery trucks. Kemper player w eventual full software holds more appeal to me effects wise, and I don’t really care about the price differential since I’ve made a lot of money off the back of a Kemper I bought over 10 years ago, which has engendered confidence and goodwill about that company, but this plus a stomp will be popular. Good times. I’m not so much a heavy tone guy but how come none of the digital peoples’ samples sound like the Cantrell snippets Rick Beato plays in that interview he posted yesterday?

Are we certain the on-board capture slots can't be over-written?

That said, you can store your own presets so the point is a bit mute.

Sure but like you mentioned earlier it would be cool to have the red stripe factory capture from.the QC

please show me a unit at that price point/size/portability that has capturing capabilities.

Neither of those are game changers. I mean, if it shrinked from the size of a scyscraper to a matchbox, or if the price was 200 instead of 2000, we might perhaps be talking. But as is, it's somewhat more portable than an already pretty portable device and it's around 1/3 the price of the QC, hardly game changing, either.

Not sure the game has been changed or not but a pretty cool thing and would be all a lot of people would ever need, even people taking it out on the road or into studios. And at what $549, that is a bit change-y. Not saying it wouldn’t require (at least on paper) compromises for some (spec oriented) people, but really what are we talking about? Other than the glory and simplicity of great amps, digital does keep delivering.
