Rob Chapman "joins" Atomic Amps ..... "major new" release coming very soon

I think it easy enough but it depends RD costs money but a few years back they posted a poll on TGP about what people want to see
and that list was pretty much touchscreen , new amps , new effects , scenes , scribble strips , wireless editor, compact .

Basically many want that NDSP footprint or slightly larger , so If Atomic is releasing a new flagship , they basically have to take everything NDSP promised and screwed up on release and they should be golden , I think guitarist are a pretty forgiving bunch even though they have not been the best customer experience ,release a reliable great sounding box with the features and people will come back

ironically I have not heard of maybe atomic amp failures , they seemed pretty solid , the CLR maybe not so much but the boxes were pretty durable
That’s actually really true; if they could figure out a way to stick updated models in a color touchscreen box, and then a NAM player, and basically rip off QC’s promise, they’d have a home run. Even I was tempted by the QC initially, due to size, layout, controls, touchscreen, etc.

So, I reluctantly watched the video.

Not surprisingly, I was left thinking a big “who gives a flying fuck?”

“The ability to record and play at volume levels to suit…”

Wasn’t this the same guy who used to use a Kemper? I don’t know about you, but Rob has always come off as shady. I think I’ll continue to avoid anything that he’s related to, including Atomic.
What video?

I agree. It's not like he is charismatic or something. Has no laundry list of musical accomplishments. What gives?

If they just added Midi-In and Midi-Out to the AFB MKII so you could setup Amps and Efx etc... all set exactly as you wanted them and just select them as you weaned ... say 10 - 20- 30 - 40 - 100 etc... presets of anything you needed ... it would probably sell like hot cakes.

Ben

I actually like the MIDI-free approach, using my AFB as a 100% WYSIWYG device (I actually already thought about stripping the switch part off), but if anything, now that they've added a HP out, why in the f***ing world didn't they add an aux in? Would cost pennies and add HUGE value. I mean, who is always only playing/practising by themselves through their modelers, using no metronomes or backing tracks? 1 out of 10,000 people? Heck, even adding an audio interface would only add very little to the cost (just have a look at what the Behringer U-Phoria devices cost, and Atomic would really only need the chip as the converters (-1, so they had to add one for stereo operation) are there already.
But no, let's rather not add anything meaningful but just a lonely HP out making little to no sense.
Also, I don't think their new IR/patch management is any better than what was there in MkI.

Anyhow, in case of Atomic, it's not making sense to discuss anything. The owner, while perhaps being a really nice guy, very clearly isn't interested in running a sustained business at all (alternatively, he's just not capable of doing so), so that's rendering anything Atomic completely useless. If I had an issue with my AFB, all I could do was to just throw it away. Ridiculous.

If they just added an effects loop and unfucked the Mesas…..well then it’d be an HX Stomp. Honestly, I don’t see this company existing in 2023, with the Stomp, the FM3T for a grand or so, etc.
I agree, unless they are going for the Lo-Budget Gear market and plan to blow them out for $249 they don't have a chance. That would probably be the smart thing to do since they have such a bad rep for support and customer service. If you knew you were getting a ton of features for low cost with the trade off being you just chunk it when something breaks.

Interesting....
Yeah that odd they would not use Amplifire unless perhaps that trademark and studio devil were registered to King /Gallo and they are no longer partners?

Also I am think maybe it’s not hardware maybe more a plug in platform 🤔

I have to think in 2023 if you want to practice with backing tracks just use a laptop with plugins. Or even a phone/ipad. You have to play the tracks off something anyway right?

To be clear, I wasn't referring to trademarks.

Rob may be one of the original influencers. He was one of the first to produce "infotainment" content on YouTube. That's kind of a double edged sword I suppose.

Now he does own a guitar company and is involved in businesses, but he's not really a musical artist anymore. His popularity seems to have waned a fair amount and he's had some well publicized hits to his credibility.

Jumping from brand to brand to me reeks of desperation. You're basically only endorsing products based on who's paying you and not what you use or believe in.

I honestly have not seen much of Rob shilling ,has he aired some dirty laundry and said some things on the internet he shouldn’t sure
Who the hell hasn’t really

But for shilling there are far worse BEA comes to mind but even he has calmed done

I honestly don’t have a big problem with it there are many influencers on the net that’s what they do
If Bea gets a cheque to promote a new piece of year so be it
this honestly is nothing new before the internet there was guitar clinics
Same thing a famous artist or endorser would travel to guitar shops peddling their companies

Shilling is just so much more under the microscope because of social media ,

But it’s easy to ignore , unless it NDSP which is endless hype when they have a new product

Also I am more interested in the products I don’t have to like Rob he is not delivering it and coming for dinner

Okay there's a difference between advertising and shilling:
  • Shilling is when you promote a company's products as if you are an independent consumer, but you have a secret affiliation with the company.
  • Making paid advertisements or demo videos as properly disclosed is just advertising.
I don't think that either Rob Chapman or Rabea have been guilty of shilling. I doubt that is too common nowadays now that there are disclosure laws in place.

I think what really bugs me now is the distinction between artists and influencers/content creators. Decades ago, we would chase down gear that was used by our favorite artists because we loved the music and wanted those same sounds. Nowadays, we just see dozens of basically short infomercials for a product released by people who don't actually create any music. They're basically professional advertisers.

It's kind of like if you were a big fan of Billy Mays and got super excited for every commercial he did and would rush out to buy whatever product he advertised. That makes zero fucking sense.

Anyways, I cut Rabea slack because he actually releases music every now and again. The collab he did with Plini "Giving 6", which was kind of an ad for NDSP, at least was a really good song (with a killer drum sound too). And you can actually find it on Spotify and listen to it. The Totemist is also really good.

Well, all that would require an additional interface and possibly cause more or less noticeable latency. And really, it'd only take pennies to add an analog aux in, so I absolutely don't get it.

I think your right ever since that new YouTube disclosure I think there has been less of it

So artist definitely be shilling
George Lynch for sure there is no way he has ever used half the crap he endorses
