Rob Chapman "joins" Atomic Amps ..... "major new" release coming very soon

It would be awesome to see a new version of the Amplifire with things like a big color screen, scene switching, remastered amps, expanded effects, etc. Would also be cool to see them have some features others don't like Wifi/Bluetooth and keeping those dedicated amp controls (or maybe a toggle button between amp controls and on screen or something).

They have a history of producing modelers that are very reasonably sized, so something maybe between the Amplifire 6 and 12 would be cool.

Hell, just a revamped UI would be a godsend. Amplifire tones are as good as anything else out there, in my experience, but the hardware (excepting maybe AmplifireBox) is horribly outdated by now.

I am not going to lie I would be interested in that kind of like a Headrush Gigboard with more switches and no Headrush models

A match made in hell. Nice folks (very likely at least), incredibly bad to do business with.
And well, I'm saying this as someone still using an AFB MkI as the core unit for all my drive pedals. But the only Atomic unit I'd ever buy would be another AFB MkI (as a backup and 2nd hand).

If they just added Midi-In and Midi-Out to the AFB MKII so you could setup Amps and Efx etc... all set exactly as you wanted them and just select them as you weaned ... say 10 - 20- 30 - 40 - 100 etc... presets of anything you needed ... it would probably sell like hot cakes.

If they just added an effects loop and unfucked the Mesas…..well then it’d be an HX Stomp. Honestly, I don’t see this company existing in 2023, with the Stomp, the FM3T for a grand or so, etc.

Yeah .... good points ... probably agree ..... L6 and Fractal are so far ahead / down the road now its hard to see any small entity catching up .... factor in Tonex and now LP for Kemper ...... its very hard to see exactly which sub-niche of the sub-niche of the sub-niche that they are trying to "own" .... and even if they did/do .... the chronic same problems of supply, sh%t support and profitability and R&D and production to survive and grow will arguably be - imo - insurmountable.

Honestly ... whatever they are cooking up, their only shot - imo - is to release something so unique and so much better at an impossible to argue- against price point ... but in the world that it 2023 / 2024 ... that's essentially an impossible "to do" when you look at everything else already around and well established / entrenched.

Well see soon enough I guess.

Ben

So, a birdie says it's not Amplifire based...

Edit, Amplifire is a Trademark owned by Atomic so I retract this statement due to this. A trademark can be slapped on anything.

It’s kind of a drag, if you think about it. There are SO many different amp and effects companies, but modelers/profilers; very little choice, comparatively.

I think it easy enough but it depends RD costs money but a few years back they posted a poll on TGP about what people want to see
and that list was pretty much touchscreen , new amps , new effects , scenes , scribble strips , wireless editor, compact .

Basically many want that NDSP footprint or slightly larger , so If Atomic is releasing a new flagship , they basically have to take everything NDSP promised and screwed up on release and they should be golden , I think guitarist are a pretty forgiving bunch even though they have not been the best customer experience ,release a reliable great sounding box with the features and people will come back

ironically I have not heard of maybe atomic amp failures , they seemed pretty solid , the CLR maybe not so much but the boxes were pretty durable

So, I reluctantly watched the video.

Not surprisingly, I was left thinking a big “who gives a flying fuck?”

“The ability to record and play at volume levels to suit…”

Wasn’t this the same guy who used to use a Kemper? I don’t know about you, but Rob has always come off as shady. I think I’ll continue to avoid anything that he’s related to, including Atomic.
