Namm 2025 predictions

Nevermind. Looks like Suhr beat Dave to it:

I will say that this one is pretty bad-ass:

The only thing I’d change is the pickups (and logo) to nickel or chrome. I loathe gold on any guitar.

I dig the guitar in the video a whole lot more than the one on Sweetwater's website. I don't know what "Macassar Ebony" is, but apparently I don't like it:

(And I agree with you - the gold is not great.)

Bob Taylor said yeeeeears ago we’d start seeing more streaked ebony, which I took as “We’re going to start seeing pale moon ebony…” but clearly that’s not the case. Took a while to happen but I’m guessing this is what he was talking about.

tldr; tons of ebony trees were being cut down and discarded if they weren’t all black inside, when the majority of ebony is streaked like the above. Instead of just killing trees and discarding the non-all-black ones they were going to start using it.

I’m not sure what/if the difference is between standard ebony and Macassar, but I’ve noticed a lot of what’s being labeled Macassar looks closer to rosewood with the grain than most of the ebony fingerboards I’ve seen previously. Not always the case though, I believe my Solar is Macassar and it looks exactly like my JEM’s fingerboard, super tight grain and jet black, where my Macassar Spector looks like very dark rosewood.

Agreed, I think it's very niche technology that spikes the price up on that cab. Too many bells and whistles get pitched these days on some products

Have you compared running your QC into the FR-12 vs running into a combo amp return or a power amp&cab? At around $500+, I'm wondering if it's better to just get a used combo and run my QC into the return.
I've got a few options at home and the FR10 keeps surprising me by coming out (almost) on top:

- QC into 2x HS80 nearfields
- QC into FR10
- QC into TC Electronics BAM200 SS power amp to 4x12 cab
- QC into Quilter 101 SS power amp (via return) to 4x12 cab
- QC to Mesa TA-30 power amp (via return) to 4x12 cab

(Sorry I have no idea what that cab is loaded with for speakers - only that I generally like the way it sounds.)

Obviously, there are times when you want the precision and the stereo effects from the studio monitors. Obviously, the TA-30 is louder (dangerously so.) But otherwise, the little FR10 is probably my favorite setup in terms of filling the room, feeling like an amp, and translating my presets/ scenes without too much tweaking. Yes, it's also the most convenient solution, and yes that might make me a little biased... but it works. I'd buy one again in an instant.

IMO, the Modern is the best design Suhr has ever done. Probably the sexiest s-style body on the market.

Everything else they offer is just another boring rehash of existing designs.
I agree. The Modern is totally beautiful. Unfortunately, I think they chose form over function because the lower cutaway is a bit too small and somewhat inhibits upper fret access.

Not as good of a deal in Europe I'm afraid!
After you add shipping and VAT, it's like $2300~. Still cheaper than this modded series of course, but more expensive than a stock new Marshall.
There are ways to get the taxes a tad lower if you talk to Nik.

Sterling has posted on their FB the Rabea sabre
Charcoal burst looks killer I think I might even prefer it to the sig

Not a fan of the brisket burst?

NGL....I played that finish of his sig in one of Guitar Center's "Platinum" rooms, and I thought it was a phenomally-made and sounding instrument. I'm curious as to how much fit and finish they'll lose to make a Sterling version. I know Sterling non-locking term bridges tend to suck compared to their EBMM counterparts.
