Interested in moving to IEM. Have questions

I'm interested in moving to in-ear monitoring with my band. But I'm sort of lost about where to begin. We current use passive floor monitors with a Peavey powered mixer, https://peavey.com/product/xr-s-powered-mixer/.

I'm looking at these Phenyx units, https://a.co/d/bgAVuNH. What other equipment would I need? How to I get the signal from the mixer to the Phenyx system? I've watched some YouTube videos, but I'm still confused.

And what if only myself wanted to go with in-ears, and not the rest of the band?

You really need a mixer with aux outputs so you can mix your send to your IEM transmitter.

Many bands use the X32 - and they recently had a big price drop.

My band has been using a Mackie DL-32R. Each member has a dedicated stereo mix that we adjust with an iPad or iPhone.

I have a Rolls PM351 that I use to split my guitar and vocal signals to a pair of cabled IEMs. Add wireless pack for freedom.

This is where I get confused. So I need this mixer with aux outputs on top of the current Peavey mixer? Or to replace the Peavey? Then I'd also need a separate power amp as well?

Looks like that peavey mixer lack Aux outputs

As mentioned above the behringer stuff is pretty standard for this and also is currently on a huge sale/price drop

My band uses these for the in ear packs themselves: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...tra-compact-personal-in-ear-monitor-amplifier

We also just got an XR18, I don't know how many ins or outs you need but this is decently robust in that regard on not a lot of money especially with the price drops https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XR18--behringer-by-air-xr18-tablet-controlled-digital-mixer

Everyone in your band could then control their own IEM mixes via app. Aux outputs just go straight into the in ear packs and your ready to go

There are 5 of us in the band, so only 5 needed. That Behringer isn't powered, correct? So I'd also need a power amp?

No poweramp needed, at least not with those P2 units and I assume most comps..

If your band runs all the sound for your shows I believe you'd need powered/active speakers for the PA mains

In ears are great, but doing it right and making it useful is not cheap or easy. You want a mixer that has control over each aux, you want a transmitter set that isn’t super cheap, you want earbuds that sound good and are comfortable to wear and block out enough sound to not have to run them super loud, and probably most importantly, you need the band you’re playing with to understand how to play at reasonable levels. If you’re the only one on ears and the rest of the band is still volume fighting you’re going to be cranking them up to levels that aren’t healthy. There is also the caveat that you should have a consistent way to get all of your signals into your mixer without having to adjust gain staging every time you plug in.

We also just need to update our mixer since we're out of channels. So I figured why not do my homework for the future while shopping for a decent mixer?

Sort of a related question, have you listened to guitar with IEMs before, and do you know what it's like? I don't mean in your bedroom, low volume, "home"-EQ'd, with a million stereo effects listening, I mean, louder than that, same tone as when I play with the band, non-stereo listening?

It's not for the faint of heart, lol.

No I haven't had any experience in a live band scenart. But, this is also my attempt to get some recommendations for a newer mixer overall, since we've outgrown that Peavey.

Bazillion % all of this. Me thinking about IEMs=:nails:nails:nails:nails:nails

Let's just say that it's not the most pleasing way to listen to guitar, for a lot of people, (me being one of them).

I recently stopped. I got tired of listening to guitar that way, not getting the perfect mix with each different soundguy at each place, and I'm definitely not carring a mixer for the band, (neither is anyone else), to house sound gigs, etc.

With one glaring exception I've always had excellent results with the IEM mixes provided by the sound guy

Now that we have the XR18 though my bass player wants us to always bring it and take XLR splits which im kind of ehhh on. It's pretty small/light though so :idk

Yeah this is a non-starter for me. Spend more money to have my own playing shoved against my ears for 3 hours at a time? No thank you :ROFLMAO:

The problem there becomes getting each person their own stereo aux mix.

One of the reasons we chose the DL32R is because it supports more outputs than the X-32.
