Is it realistic to have a tube amp at home?

I once had a silverface era Fender Champ that was amazing for conversation level playing at home. I’d use it with overdrive pedals when I wanted more break up. Bonus points when I’d have the house to myself I’d just crank it up all the way and rock out.

First decent practice amp had was a super champ. Takes an od pedal great and really good player experience and dynamics that nothing cheap small and digital can hope to achieve.

Seems to me, a waste of money for low volume, clean tones in your living room.

A waste of money is a wonderful Friday night conversation with a glass of wine. You are probably right, but most amateurs probably also don’t need that third guitar or that more expensive fishing rod 😄😜

But you are probably (def?) right:)

I wasnt trying to be a jerk or disrespectful.
Just seems the change to me would be expensive.
And for what outcome?

Ive just had driveways re-edged and stoned, side walk poured and a new driveway installed to the west side of my barn.
One bathroom redone.
Two barn roof being covered in steel yesterday and finishing today.

Maybe I projected my penny pinching today on you?
I think of the money being spent, ugh...

As much as I love my tube amps, I do still think of it (tube amp) as a waste...

If you're flush with cash, disregard any comment I make.

And dont lie to yourself, you need that expensive fishing rod!

Haha I meant it tongue in cheek (is that the English saying?).

We just remodeled our entire kitchen and a new wooden floor so i feel you.

I guess the idea around tube is the beauty that starts happening at higher volumes that doesn’t really correlate to the intention I want it for.

Those all sound like things a new Living Room amp is more important than. :rofl
(As long as the roof isn't leaking, that is.) ;):grin

Oh ok, it's starting to make sense now. You're not really looking for a "living room" amp are you? :rofl
"Honey, just something simple, nothing too special. Probably just keep it in the den for low volume."
"Ok, yeah. Sure sweetie, that sounds fine."

Yep and this forum is just evidence for later. “Look honey, this IS a tube amp on living room volume. I asked the experts”

Update.

For now I decided to take my Strat upstairs and play electric upstairs in my room. I already had a Washburn D12S (???) which apparently is still tuned after not using it for months and I'll take that one downstairs for the noodling.

Would like to side the barns within two years.
