IK TONEX CAB

It all makes sense now! A 150W speaker for $500 is expected. A 1000W speaker for $500 is deal of the century.

If I go down this path, I will take a closer look at the Laney LFR. Those are priced more in line with the actual wattage they advertise.
The Laney is great, but I've only played the 1x12" model.

It’s almost necessary for manufacturers to market the 100W spec these days, as it’s become such a common number for so many monitors. People who know how it really works chuckle at the inflated numbers, but the average person doesn’t know this, so it’s smart to make sure that your overhyped power ratings are in line with your competitors overhyped power ratings.

I actually like the idea of being able to load your favorite IR, and just treat it like a regular guitar cab. That makes a lot of sense to me. Sound guys hate when the modeler kid pulls up with 12 different presets, each with different amps, IRs, volume levels, etc.

I don't know that I would pay the $200 premium over the FR10 to have this functionality tho. Also the concerns about accidentally switching presets is valid.

Also don't trust anything Fender says about the FR series. They don't know shit. The power amp is outsourced, and they will straight up gaslight you if you tell them your unit is unnaturally hissy. All that being said, I still think its the best solution on the market. Definitely going to keep an eye out for comparisons against the Tonex cab.

Finally, I have to imagine they will release a version of this with a Tonex built in. It seems like a no-brainer. The idea is appealing, but I'm sure it will come riddled with UX issues.

Fwiw, while I was sort of interested at first, I'm not anymore. I have a monitoring only EQ in my main rig. I can as well add one in my small rig. And while it might make sense to have this thing when only using a Stomp (freeing up one block), when I actually use my Stomp on its own, it's pretty much always because of transportation issues, so any of my own monitoring options would have to stay at home anyway.
Which leaves me with the mic/live adjustment knob. That I have absolutely no use for.
So, rational thinking -> money saved.

No. Plenty of speakers manage that.

I think he’s talking about the whole package-including a speaker that is actually rated for 1000WRMS, an amp that actually puts out that much power, and a cabinet to hold everything. That would be a steal. 1000W raw drivers with that power ratings are readily available at that price though, yes.

What curbs my enthusiasm is the fact that IK Multimedia doesn’t have a ton of experience in this type of gear, and zero history in after the sale support for any issues that may or may not come up. That’s a huge roll of the dice for early adopters.

There's still plenty of class D monitors in that range.

I get the complaints about an extra $200, but if you had a Fender "FRFR" and wanted to buy the outbound gear to match what this allegedly offers, you’d be spending that much.

My QSC K10s advertise those specs, but they’re not actual numbers. The two amps in the unit are rated at 500W each, with the woofer taking most of its amp while the horn is only receiving something like 75W. Lots of hype in that regard, even with reputable brands. You have to read the fine print in the spec sheets. Most of the time the legitimately powerful amps are that large to ensure clean headroom, but are limited to not exceed the actual power handling of the drivers.

I guess it might appeal to the Gigging Musician for me this whole amp in the room thing is a Myth
My PowerCabs have an amp and speakers they are pretty neutral, for my use and purposes this is all i require, since I'm just a bedroom hobbyist and I don't Gig, but i can see for others why the Fender or this new Cab might be appealing
