I got to participate in a video game arrangement album

...and the new album is out now.

My contribution is the track 'Rumble N Tumble Valley' (32:37 on the youtube stream).

This album was birthed from a game jam in the Resonant Union camp. During a 2 day period, we had 12 hours to compose a jazz fusion track as if we were writing for a Mario Kart esque racing video game. So there's a title, menu, options and (mostly) racing tracks based music to choose and claim. We all had to write a demo during that period and then have the option to and and/or rerecord live instruments during another set time period. All the artwork was also done during that period, with each character having their own backstory and we even added little blurbs to describe the tracks. The result is essentially a video game soundtrack and art without the actual video game.

The jam happened in what happened to be one of the most difficult times of my life. It was a point where I set aside music altogether for personal and private reasons, so I wasn't actually planning to participate at all. But with encouragement from my family as well as collaborators, I decided to enter the jam. I wrote the song Rumble N Tumble Valley in the span of 7 hours (fully arranged and recorded). I was going to keep the demo as the final track but realised the live rerecordings were arranged to happen later, so I got my drummer as well as my bassist (both who played on my recent album) to get a live rhythm section, and I did some touch ups, so the song is more or less a real live performance.

I'm actually glad I did the jam, as it's incredibly riveting and rewarding to be able to write a something in such a short time period. I've got one more arrangement planned with the group before I sit out future projects to concentrate writing my third album.
