Helix Talk

Looks like I'll be opening up my Helix Floor to clean some of the mini tactile switches again. The two that I focused on before are still working flawlessly but now FS 8+9 are not latching maybe 60% of the time. Wondering if I should record the process again..

Good old switches... unfortunately an ongoing affair in Line 6 land. Had wonky ones on my shortboard, on the M13 and on the Helix. You usually don't get that from Boss (I just reactivated my GT-10 for a certain kind of gig and apart from the jog wheel feeling pretty soft (which might even be something I could adress) it works as on day one).

I for one would happily pay considerably more money for L6 stuff in case they made sure the hardware was more sturdy.

AFAIK the Helix uses the same tactile switches as those legacy boards you mention: https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/184172-line-6-24-31-1105-6mm-4-pin-tactile-switch

The Helix line isn't mentioned but user reports mention these switches as replacements that work, as well as these:

..which I'll order and solder in myself if this problem continues with the switches I've already cleaned. I have a little more electronics experience now than I did when I first opened my Helix to clean the switches so I feel a lot more confident about it.

Jesus this preset corruption keeps coming back! Bidding on a helix at a police auction and hoping to switch to it and see if my particular unit is just possessed....so frustrating

Thing is, you usually shouldn't have to do these things. It's fine in case the unit is very old or in case it's one among a lot. But both isn't the case.

I wonder if it got bypassed somehow without the icon showing it.
I don't think so. I've noticed my patches with delays have been glitchy exactly as Sacha describes in his scenario after the last update and the .1 patch.

If I change the patch and come back to it, all is fine.

The delays simply seem to stop working or reduce the output level to imperceptible until you toggle patches and all is fine again. It only seems to be the delay block that I can tell thus far. But, I'm using ducking and dual delay and get the same odd behavior from time to time.

Sure, it'd be nice if the unit were a little more robust but instead of praying to the gods I'll take matters into my own hands.

In fact I just cleaned them and closed it up. They're working a little better now but I'll put it through it's paces before I put a nail in the coffin. Last time I had to give it some play before they really started behaving appropriately

Did you record it?

And now do another video for the Stomp (even if yours is still working, hrrhrr...).
I've said this before, the Stomp is cram-packed with stuff and and I wouldn't think it would be as easy to get to the footswitches. If I needed to, I'd probably buy a backup just in case I fuck something up!

Great DIY video. By the way, why is the snapshot icon in the top right of the screen red? What does that mean vs white?
It depends on what you have the Snapshot Edits behavior set to in the global menu. Red signifies Snapshot Discard, so any changes made per snapshot aren't saved unless I manually save them. A white icon means any changes will be saved to that snapshot automatically.

Pretty nice insights - I enjoyed watching it.
There is probably always some product in the making that they aren't allowed to discuss so not sure what that's worth...

Great insights on Helix too. At around 10:30, @benadrian gives a good overview on how HX modeling works under the hood.

F.ex. Line 6 actually models amps with real speaker loads connected to them, which other... big companies seem not to.
