Helix 3.8 when?

Congrats to the L6 folks for getting this one out. It’s a ton of work and should be acknowledged.

L6 devs stop reading here please - yer gonna be mad.

This is probably the most disappointing update thus far.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a Super Reverb, but did we REALLY need another blackface fender amp? Like…really? We’ve got the Princeton, the deluxe, bassman, even a boutique clone or two. We get it. L6 likes Fender amps.

Maybe once L6 adds the vibroverb, pro, bandmaster, and tremolux we can finally get a decent Mesa Mark high gain tone in Helix. It’s only been a fucking decade.

Rant over.
For me the disappointing part is that there are no new utility features, or fx besides the Dunlop bass wah. Like Line6 couldn't at least fix the ridiculous block parameter order for many fx where Mix is buried deep down the list? Or make Helix Native not adjust the parameters with the mouse scroll wheel?

I just can't get excited about more amp and cab models when there's so many already, and I'm a fan of the Super Reverb!

Update and restore took a bit longer than expected, but seems it worked fine.

Can't play until tomorrow, but thankfully I'm currently on sick leave, so first thing tomorrow morning I'll brew up some tea, put on a warm sweater, and check out the new stuff. 🙂

PS: And yeah, more effects woulda coulda... Anyhow, I'm sure there's some fun in 3.80 to be had. 🤞

I would like to test the Fender amp against the Line6 Clarity for cleans. It sounds really good. I'm only worried about DSP usage.

I got spoiled long ago...I'd love to get a sidechained gate so I can ditch the external one when using tonex, or less DSP on Poly Capo so I can ditch the tonex and gate completely....sad to see this thing fail on my IR's, scared what this means for importing backup bundles given how buggy this has been traditionally

I’ve long thought that the lack of a super reverb was a big gap in the HX stuff. Deluxes, Princeton’s, twins, and bassmans don’t sound like super reverbs.

Plenty of people read that there’s a few new high gain amps and said the same thing about how helix didn’t need any more high gainers.

More is more…

"Although the focus is on new amps and cabs, please note that the HX Effects processor and HX One pedal will still receive a new free effect" - I'm probably reading into this too much but they are talking about the new Bass Wah effect, aren't they?

Post a clip!

Actually wanted to. But broke a string. Fortunately the moment was recorded, but as it's too late I will neither restring anything, grab another axe or rerecord the other parts (which are really just a 5 minute sketch). So here we go for some almost live string breakage (obviously happened while bending with the lead sound...). In real life, the sounds would need some EQ-ing.

I've owned a deluxe reverb, two Princetons and a twin in real life. I've always wanted a super reverb though. I don't even care how loud they are, one day I'll have one.

To be fair, i find pretty much all Fender amps can be made to be sound basically the same... except the Super, which IRL is way more punchy, specially when gained.

I find I can cover a lot of the Super with a deluxe reverb through a 4x10. IMO the blackface tonestack through the big cab is a huge part of the recipe. Yes there are circuit differences but IMO the differences are over attributed.

That said, I wasn’t being sarcastic. I do love the Super. In fact I love the blackface stuff from the champ up to the twin. I own a late 70s SFPR & SFDR. I get it. I’m in.

Im just saying it was possible to get a number of authentic blackface Fender tones prior to 3.80 adding the Super. The Mark IV lead channel sucks and there’s not another substitute in the Helix ecosystem. It’s a miss nearly as big as the lack of a decent 2203 until recently.

The work L6 is putting in is amazing though. The Super and Bogner are both exciting and I’m pumped to play them. I’m just being a baby because a core tone I use and need isn’t represented and I’d really like it to be.
