Helix 3.7: The Freeman Update

Can't believe I still haven't had a chance to playthrough what is arguably the best update ever! Been hearing the demos and I can't sleep (in a good way)
This really makes HX a very complete modeller. Nothing else needed. Synths - check. All amps - check. Ac guitar, elec guitar, bass guitar, check check check..
Routing check. Workflows check.
Oh man. You're gonna love the 2203 if you like Marshalls. The Bassman/Dripman and some of those Catalyst amps are great too, as well as the Nobels. Good things await!

Still haven't updated to 3.7. but tonight's the night! Can't wait.
Even if I don't like the new Line6 custom amps, except for the Clarity and its boost (the others imho aren't responsive to the guitar volume knob and pick force), the JCM800-2203, the Feedbacker, the ODR-1 and even the Vitriol Clean are magnificent! You'll enjoy everything a lot, I'm pretty sure! And I still have to explore the Dripman (I dedicated only too few minutes to it).

Seriously?
Yes, seriously. I can't get your fantastic tone from clean to dirty with just my guitar volume knob with the new custom amp models, unlike what I get from my usual favourite amp models (Matchstick both channels, Placater, Ventoux, Litigator) or from the new 2203 and through some od models, too. Maybe it depends on my guitar, my technique or on how I adjusted the amp parameters. I even got a bad impression, reminding me of the Digitech RP dirty amp models, when I adjusted the guitar volume or my pick force and I got lower volume but with the same amount of gain/grit instead of a clean(er) tone. Maybe it's my fault...

Weird…. I found Voltage to clean up much like a plexi model which is better than Placater. Can’t understand why you would get a different result.

D

If you want, I can post the patch. But it's really nothing more than the Voltage (boost off) through the Mandarin30 2x12 (room FX courtesy of Logic).

Same here.

Not all clean up in the same way, and it definitely depends on the guitar to a degree.
I found the Dripman for example to clean up very well, even with gain pedals in front like the 808 and tube driver.

A lot even (at least given my experience). Pickup type, resistance and resonance frequency, pot used, treble bleed yes/no, they all can make or break it - and unfortunately, there's no alround solution as it seems. For instance, I usually like a 22pF cap on a 500k pot as a treble bleed when using humbuckers, but on my Anderson it sounds like @ss with the current pickups (even if they're pretty standard humbuckers). With the Schecter used in my example (Fender Noiseless 2 and Schecters whateverbucker in bridge position) it works very well, just that the pot characteristics are a little weird (it's doing soo much on the first millimeters).
And it also makes a difference whether you're hitting whatever it is with a buffer or not (even in case the input impedance is 1mOhm for all devices). I'm using a Hotone Soulpress II in Wah/Vol mode, so it's buffering all the time - but it seems to be doing that quite well (losing the variable input impedance of the Stomp that way, but I don't care).

I have to admit that this latest update is what has been closest to pushing me over the edge and into Helix Floor territory! And it isn't even because of the 2203 or the new Line 6 amp models - which all sound great! It's more the Feedbacker/Freqout model. This has been my number one request to include for years and it finally arrives! And all of the demos I've heard of it sound great and in some instances even better than my DigiTech Freqout pedal!

This coming from a very happy user of a Headrush Pedalboard - which coincidentally has had a very decent Feedback model since launch ;)

Didn't the Feedback effect come in firmware 2.1?

I've never used or heard it being used in person, but I did find this video on YouTube.

I've no idea if this is representative of what the effect can actually do, but, if it is, I'd say the HX feedbacker sounds considerably better!

I've only dipped a toe into the Feedbacker on my HX FX, and I haven't A/B'ed it with the FreqOut yet, but so far I'm under the impression it's (at least) on par.

I have very limited experience with the FreqOut but, from what i recall, Helix's Feedbacker seems to track way better.

I updated whatever day it was the release dropped but haven't had much time to spend with it. The Nobels marks the first item I started tossing out in the we-want-this list threads that made it in, and I've dropped it into several presets, mostly with the Ventoux, Elmsley, and Grammati-Dumble and liked it quite a bit. Seems like a keeper to me.

I tried the new 2203. I'm not a Marshal aficionado so can't comment on it's authenticity but it's a nice model that has a shot at finding it's way into one of my mainstay presets.

I only spent enough time with the newly added L6 originals to determine what I expected--that they all produce very usable sound options. I owe myself the investment of a little more time with them.

Still haven't touched the dripman, new verbs, or feedbacker, yet.

Add the Nobels to the Dripman. Grab a strat or tele.
