Fractal Talk

Oh, I’m sure…..I was talking about me hunting and pecking, not you…….View attachment 28940
Oh yeah I know. :)

It’s funny; my dad is retired now, but lifelong IT guy as well. However, he’s always been a hunt and peck guy. In fact, it was impressive just how fast he could type with two fingers.
That's great!

I was on the computer the other day and a friend saw me typing something and said "You can touch type!!!???"

When I was 15 my best friend and I took a typing class during summer school. We were the only two boys in the class. It was great!

A skill that's served me well over a lifetime.
I think now with Teams/Slack/Discord, people have gotten quicker too. However, much of that’s on a smart phone, so maybe not? 😂

I wanted to have fun my Senior Year so I took Typing 101 for an easy class. I enjoyed it,
since I am kind of competitive by nature. I took pride in adhering to the rules and
memorizing Home Row and QWERTY. Fun being the only douche dude in the class, too. :rofl

It served me well, as I ended up getting into writing and have ghostwritten a few books,
as well as authoured a couple of my own, in my adult life. Saw none of that coming as a
teen, though. Life is funny like that. :idk

Wow, very similar story to you la szum! Sr. year of high school, I decided to take typing, only dude in the class. Got an A (my only A in Sr. year) and pissed off a bunch of girls because that boy could type better than them. I was fastest in class with 76wpm, 2nd place was 71wpm and my girlfriend I think was 68wpm - she had me beat though as class valedictorian and captain of pom pom squad ;~)) Wrote my first computer code that same year, but that is not why I took typing, I took it because there was nothing else for me there except to PARTY as a Sr. (by end of Jr. year, I had take all math and science courses at the school)! Typing has worked well though as I have worked most of my adult life as a programmer so it is good to be able to move quickly on the board without looking and have it be accurate ;~)) Off days are horrible! Couple of days a year when I am not "on it", I am ready to take an axe to the screen ;~)) No idea what I type at these days, should probably test at some point but I would believe it is at least at what I was at in HS considering the decades of experience now.

Out of curiosity I just did one of those online tests and got 73wpm. What a larf, haven't done one of those since I was 16 and applied for a data entry job at some shite company!

Smart girls don't get pissed off (although they may squirt a lot), but appreciate certain skill of fast typist and shred guitarists 😺

Yeah, I've often said typing/keyboarding was the most useful course I took in high school. Has always been a bonus to be able to type fast/well, all through life. I too got into the competitive aspect, lol, and my classical piano training also helped, I think?

I did typing class in 9th or 10th grade, and also spanked the girls and the teacher on speed and accuracy.

Don't remember if I was high 70's or low 80's, in wpm - I just know I was

Been using it ever since! Idk if I can say that about anything else from high school?

Funny how alike many of us are. Although I'm obviously better looking and a better dancer (proof in gif). :pickle:grin:banana

Interesting fact: once while on a business trip to Nashville, the cab driver said I was sitting right where John Travolta recently had. Seat was a little greasy. :hmm

I saw Ray Charles in an airport in Michigan once when I was on a business trip.

He didn't see me.

That's so cool, MW! :beer

I was pretty decent, too. WPM!! :rofl

The teacher was a young man fresh out of college, so all the young ladies
would mob him during class. I would get my work done and handed in, and
then leave the class and wander. Didn't notice one time.

Thank you, Mr. Molina. :banana

My dad insisted I get to at least Gr 8 before he’d let me start guitar.
Similar story.

My mom made me play violin until I was the second violin in the Philadelphia public school All City Orchestra. After I finished that year and graduated from eight grade I told her I quit and wanted a guitar.

Thankfully she bought me one and I've been playing ever since.

Yeah, guitar has never had the same respect as “real instruments“,

I knew it came off like a humble brag, but it was true, I think it did help with the typing. :rofl

I took piano lessons from age 6 to 18, got to Gr 9 Royal Conservatory level (two levels from the top).

My dad insisted I get to at least Gr 8 before he’d let me start guitar.

Wow. That's impressive. Mad respect! :beer

You still play? Have a Baby Grand in the Foyer? :idk

Any Synths?

Thanks, man! :beer

In retrospect, I'm lucky to have had the opportunity for lessons and the "firm support and direction" from my dad. Also, I likely wouldn't have gone past the requisite Gr 8 if I hadn't hooked up with a teacher I really connected with and loved. Working with that guy got me further than I had planned or expected

I play piano every day as a teaching tool, but almost never for my own pleasure. Guitar has too much of my soul, just can't get enough. But learning piano def formed my understanding of music, harmony, how it all fits together, etc. And I'm always planning to get back at regular playing, just haven't, yet.

No grand in the foyer, ha, but I do have a nice little studio-size piano by the front window. Love to hear my daughter play it these days.

I did play synth in some bands, back in the day, often guitar + synth, but the last "new" keyboard I owned was a Korg M1.
