Fractal Talk

Is it straight modeling improvements or will the SSV2 and Badlander be in the release too? :stirthepot

I heard James Freeman wants a Badlander in the Fractal.
Looks like we are starting to get some info on the Badlander from a guy who did a trace
Cliff notes it’s a MK preamp
With a post tonestack
A Marshall voiced preamp
Oddly no cold clip a la recto /slo
It’s 4 gain stage Crunch
5 gain stage Crush

about the Badlander circuit and it's interesting to say the least. For one thing, it's not an alteration of the Dual Rec circuit, it's really its own thing.

For one, there is no cold clipper! In fact, after the first stage, in crush mode, what you get is a Mark style overdrive circuit (82k plate over 1.5k cathode followed by 270k plate over 3.3k cathode).

There appears to be two fixed tone stack circuits near V1, so quite likely that it basically simulates a Mark front end, except that the actual tone stack comes at the end, driven by a cathode follower.

And that tone stack ... Is pure Marshall. 22nF mids and bass, 500pF treble cap and a 33k slope (e.g. Dual Rec is 680pF treble and 47k slope)

It's complicated to figure out the whole thing because of the 14 relays switching things in and out depending on the mode.

But it appears the clean is a lot more Plexi than Fender, which checks out. And Crunch is closer to a modified also does not have that and it definitely hits "quicker" than a Dual Rec (even in Vintage mode, which uses NFB) and has a more transparent top end (not brighter per se, but yet more open sounding)

I also saw a 47k NFB resistor, so a good amount of NFB, similar to a SLO.

Make it so @FractalAudio :love

They really need a new screen display option for FM3/9 for Setlists/Songs.

I can see a list of all the Scenes in the current preset which is useless, but I can’t see the name of the song or setlist… which is crucial!

And with footswitches I have to choose whether I want to know what song I’m on or what song comes next. No way to see both.

We need a main screen option that shows a list of songs instead of a list of Scenes

I have tried twice since introduction of the Setlist/Songs stuff, but have not been able to keep it as my way to navigate. In addition to what you have mentioned, one of the things that I want in there is set tempo per song. Another thing I would like is being able to set it up so that one button takes me through the whole song, going through all scenes in whatever order I tell it to (and let's me bounce back one at a time if I hit footswitch too many times). I like it and it has some promise, but not quite there yet for me ;~))

This is a great suggestion. You should add it to the wish list section of the Fractal forum.

Updated firmware; reset the amp block in my main preset (DM2 slap back delay into 59 Bassman Normal into a Dynacab into a London plate Reverb).

THere's enough downtime between playing it, doing the firmware update, etc., that its reeeeeeaalllly hard to tell. I notice differences. I think. I couldn't REALLY articulate what they are...seems a little cleaner and I haven't adjuted for that, so perhaps the "maybe that's a little clearer?" is just "of course its clearer you idiot, there is less clipping". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Doing the usual firmware update thing of actually diving in and dicking around with my patches, how I've got stuff set up, etc., and...an FM9 might make sense? I'm all desktop and the only thing I bother controlling with my feet, even when I've had big ol' foot pedal options (Helix Rack + control; FM3 + FC6) is a simple looper. But in desktop mode I do actually use the foot switches of the FM3 to turn effects on/off with my hands which is pretty handy compared to navigating to block and pressing bypass knob. Currently use a little hotone MIDI controller I've had kicking around for looper control. Between view and layouts I can of course easily do everything I need with the 3 buttons on the FM3, but 9 would be "convenient".

I went into my main patch and bumped reverb up from economy to hi res. I also dialed in a little secret sauce in the preamp page of the cab block. Those two actions took my "MAAAAAAAANNNNNN watchew talkin' about CPU limitations!!!!!!!" patch up to "Oh. Yes. I see sir."
Low 50s% up to high 70s%. Is reverb hi res needed? Absolutely not. Hardly an inconvenience. Secret sauce in the cab block is pretty great, though.

Even still! What the actual fuck?

I wish that was possible. I've been resetting the amps on all of my fav presets only...

Edit- I'll add that the multicomp has become a very important block. Most of the amps in v25 have more in your face girth and the palm mutes can get outrageous.
The Camerons are insane.
There's a lot of talk of the the ac30 Brilliant too but the Morgan ac20 is now better than ever.

Wait, what? You can’t set the tempo for the song?

There is no need to reset amp blocks... The affected settings are automatically updated on preset recall.

It depends on where you are recalling it from. If you're loading from a .syx file or loading an amp block from the block library, the reset doesn't happen. The reset only happens if you load a preset from a memory slot on the device.

He said he was resetting the Amp in his presets... ;)
